“In fall of 2016, we produced karen zacarias' legacy of light, which lifts up the under-heard story of astrophysicist emilie du chatelet, in a story that traverses time periods and raises questions about the nature of motherhood.. This production ran for two weeks at the henry clay theater. In march of 2017, we remounted robin rice's alice in black and white, fresh off it's off-broadway tour at the close of the following season. This story lifts up the life of alice austen, a victorian photo-journalist who fell in love with cameras--and another woman--at a time when women were expected to do neither. This play ran for 2 weeks at the mex theater at the ky center for the arts.in july, we celebrated the close of our 15th anniversary season with a 10 day festival atthe clifton center in which we remounted the first play we ever created, crossing mountains; premiered our newest original play about the gender/sexuality binaries, defining infinity; and commissioned an original new work by nancy gall-clayton, i'm wearing my own clothes, about civil war surgeon mary edwards walker. We also hosted three guest productions,2 staged readings, and 10 community workshops.throughout the season we toured choices: an interactive play on cyberbullying and teen suicide, and what my hands have touched: us women in wwii.”
“We conducted 2 weeks of in-school residencies at byck elementary, and 25 weeks of afterschool programming in 9 elementary and middle schools. We also conducted7 weeks of summer camp programming: 2 weeks for children ages 4-7,2 weeks for elementary school children, and 3 weeks of girlspeak, an intensive playwriting program for middle school girls. This season, girlspeak was sponsored by the norton family foundation, and took place at adelante hispanic achievers, focusing on the stories of middle school latina girls. We partnered with the latina women's group of eastern area community ministries, using theatre of the oppressed techniques to explore issues of importance to immigrant women. Lastly, we traveled to guatemala for a 10 day residency, continuing our 13 year relationship with el proyecto historias de fe (the faith stories project.)”
