Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11B

The Form 990 was prepared by outside accountants. A draft was then provided to the organization for review prior to filing with the IRS.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12C

Each director, principal officer, and member of a committee with governing board delegated powers shall annually sign a statement which affirms such person: (a) has received a copy of the conflicts of interest policy, (b) has read and understands the policy, (c) has agreed to comply with the policy, and (d) understands the corporation is charitable and in order to maintain its federal tax exemption it must engage primarily in activities which accomplish one or more of its tax-exempt purposes. To ensure the corporation operates in a manner consistent with charitable purposes and does not engage in activities that could jeopardize its tax-exempt status, periodic reviews shall be conducted.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15

All officer salaries shall be approved in advance in accordance with the corporation's conflict of interest policy, as set forth in the corporate bylaws. In all cases, any salaries received by officers of the corporation shall be reasonable and given in return for services actually rendered for the corporation which relate to the performance of the charitable or public purposes of the corporation.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19

The organization makes its governing documents available to the public upon request.

We balance workshopping with lectures on traditional and a range of independent publishing strategies and exercises that will help program participants take the right steps to develop their own successful platform. Moreover, program participants be joined by 10 mentors and industry experts and 15 peers, growing their personal network and knowledge of the craft of writing and the publishing industry.
