Establish and support sanctuaries for mistreated exotic animals that cannot be released into the wild lionsrock big cat sanctuaryat the four paws big cat sanctuary lionsrock in south africa new enclosures for older animals were built. In line with four paws own philosophy of treating animals with respect, empathy and understanding, crucial steps were taken to add a new section specifically for the older animals with chronic ailments. This will allow more supervision and more intense care appropriate for their individual needs.relocating newly confiscated big cats at lionsrock - in countries that have good legislation in place, it often happens that laws cannot be enforced and animals confiscated because of the lack of facilities to place these animals. Four paws assisted authorities in serbia with the confiscation of three lions that were kept in pour conditions. Because of four paws' resources, expertise and skills in relocating big cats as well as having the ability in providing them with a safe home, these three lions are now at lionsrock starting a new life. Bears - for many years, four paws has been on the forefront in improving the way wild animals in europe are kept. An important part of this goal is the legal ban of private ownership of bears which now has been implemented by many countries. Latest victories were that poland and kosovo joined the ban on private ownership of bears. Four paws bear parks rescue of two bears.surprisingly, even in germany the way bears are kept are often substandard which makes the work of four paws' own bear parks in bulgaria, austria, kosovo and germany even more relevant. An example is the rescue of two male bears named balou and siggi who had been kept for years under poor conditions in extremely limited space at a wildlife park in germany. The transfer was was carried out by an experienced four paws team. The bears new habitat will not only provide them with space to forage but help them rediscover their instincts and behavior patterns which were severely impacted by their previous confinement.

Huge progress was particularly made in bucharest, where, in addition, the therapy project "dogs for people" was expanded. International stray animal care missions took place in india, sudan and the ukraine. 7700 dogs were saved in the ukraine alone. In this country, which co-hosted the euro 2012 soccer championship, large teams were dispatched and assisted by a great number of volunteers from all over europe and remained active there for months. Puppy mills - four paws has been conducting an international campaign against the illegal puppy trade for many years. The unsuspecting public supports the illegal puppy mill trade unknowingly when deciding to buy a dog for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is the attraction of a good deal on the internet; ads in the newspaper; and even sometimes coming across a cute puppy at a market while on holiday. Years of educational campaigning has now cultivated an informed public about the "breeding factories" in eastern europe, however the problem still exists in many countries. Our current aim is to stop the criminal actions of the dog smugglers by educating the public and seeking in stopping the problem through legislation. Hope for wild animals in circuses - may wild animals are still suffering in european circuses. A travelling circus are simply not able to take the needs of their performing animals into consideration or make it priority. The business constantly moves from location to location, cages have to be transported and therefore need to take up as little space as possible. Circusses also need to be able to be assembled and disassembled as fast as possible. And so the animals spend most of their time in transport wagons that are far too small. There's no room for the animals to exhibit most of their natural behaviors. In some of the countries, where four paws has continued its advocacy for circuses without wild animals, it has led to legal bans, for example, in austria and hungary. A legislative project also has been embedded in a coalition treaty in the netherlands to put a stop stop the uses of wild animals in circuses. Campaigns for cruelty-free cosmetics most substances used in cosmetic products are tested for harmful effects on human health and the environment. These tests often involve the use of live animals, including mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits and fish, to test whether a substance will cause irritation or sensitization of the skin or eyes, be harmful if swallowed or be likely to cause cancer or birth defects. In march 2009, animal testing for cosmetics was banned within the eu. However, testing for cosmetic ingredients can still be performed on animals outside the eu and those ingredients are imported for sale in eu products. In 2012, four paws focused its activities on the ban of the sale of animal tested cosmetics to be implemented in 2013 in the eu as well as continue to encourage and educate consumers on how to choose cruelty-free cosmetic products.
