Form 990, Part IV, Line 14A

John De Margheriti, President and Treasurer and Vicki De Margheriti, Vice President and Secretary, and whom are the Board of Directors of AIE - WA operate from the campus of The AIE Ltd. in Canberra, Australia.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Part VI, Line 1C

Leasehold improvements are depreciated over the term or remaining term of the lease depending on when the leasehold improvements occurred. AIE - WA began painting the interior walls of the school during fiscal year ended June 30, 2016 and continued into fiscal year ended June 30, 2017.

Schedule D, Part VI, Line 1D

AIE- WA uses straight-line depreciation on fixed assets as follows: Computers and computer equipment - 2 years; Software - 3 years; Furniture - 5 years.

Schedule D, Part X, Line 2

U.S. GAAP requires the Organization's management to evaluate tax positions taken by the Organization and recognize a tax liability if the Organization has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would be sustained upon examination by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The Organization has analyzed the tax positions taken by the Organization and believes there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability or disclosure in the consolidated financial statements. U.S. GAAP also requires that all entities disclose the years for which its tax returns remain open for examination by the IRS. The IRS does not require the Organization to file tax returns on Form 990, "Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax". However, the IRS could audit the Organization; should this occur, presumably the IRS would do so with respect to years no earlier than 2014.

Schedule D, Part XI, Line 4B

The following expense amount has been netted against gross revenue presented in 990 Part VIII Line 12: $87,528 in scholarships awarded. Not all scholarships were considered by the auditor.

Schedule D, Part XII, Line 4B

The following expense amount has been netted against total expenses presented in 990 Part IX Line 25 Column A: $87,528 in scholarships awarded. Not all scholarship expense was considered by the auditor.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0During this fiscal year, AIE - WA continued its work with Seattle Public Schools, offering a Work Skill Center, which caters to juniors and seniors in the school district. The Skill Center was established to educate Seattle high school students in the subject of interactive media, including game art and design and game programming. Interactive media represents a wide variety of new and emerging interactive industries and sectors, including video games, animation, film making, and other creative 3D applications. Students use a hands-on approach and work in a studio setting, emulating a real-world work environment. Students learn to use industry standard software, work independently and in teams, and develop a portfolio for ongoing educational and career opportunities. Additionally, program graduates earn high school credit upon successful completion of the course.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc1During the fiscal year, AIE - WA delivered 3 weeks of Summer Camps to 33 high school students, of which several have attended multiple weeks. These camps were hosted at AIE - WA. Summer Camp is geared toward high school students entering grades 9 - 12, seeking knowledge in 3D programing and computer animation, and is one week in length. These short courses promote school exposure to the community it serves and is an introduction to courses students will enjoy at the college level. Successful Summer Camps are important to the school's purpose and mission as they are often the first contact students have with the school and its staff. This fiscal year, AIE - WA offered only three weeks of camp due to site improvements.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc2During the fiscal year AIE - WA offered a short course to those interested in 2D animation. The short course was designed to promote interest in AIE - WA's post-secondary products and to offer mission related activities to the public in the community it serves.
