Form 990 is prepared internally by the Financial Controller using the Urban Institute's "Form 990 Online" system. When a draft of Form 990 is completed, it is transferred to an independent Certified Public Accounting firm for review. The independent CPA provides feedback to the Financial Controller for any necessary correction and may make certain applicable corrections. Once the independent CPA has completed the review, a final copy is provided to the Board of Directors for review and filing approval. The Board of directors reviews the financial and narrative information provided in Form 990 and its relevant attachments. The board ensures that the information provided complies with the organizations mission and its tax-exempt purpose. Any errors identified are sent back to the CPA and Financial Controller for correction and final review is conducted prior to filing with the Internal Revenue Service.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Part X, Line 2

The Organization is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501 ( c )(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code (IRS) and from state income taxes under similar provisions of the Washington and Louisiana Income Tax Codes. The Organization could be liable for unrelated business income tax, should it have any income from trade or business activities regularly carried on that are unrelated to the purposes for which it was granted tax exemption. Management does not believe the Organization has any unrelated business income. U.S. GAAP requires the Organization's management to evaluate tax positions taken by the Organization and recognize a tax liability if the Organization has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would be sustained upon examination by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The Organization has analyzed the tax positions taken by the Organization, and believes there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability or disclosure in the financial statements. U.S. GAAP also requires that all entities disclose the years for which its tax returns remain open for examination by the IRS. The IRS does not require the Organization to file tax returns on Form 990, "Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax". However, the IRS could audit the Organization; should this occur, presumably the IRS would do so with respect to years no earlier than 2021.

IRS990/Desc0The Academy of Interactive Entertainment - WA (AIE - WA) was founded in 2010 to provide world-class education in 3D animation, game programming, and digital visual effects. AIE - WA offers four certificate programs, including: 1. Advanced Diploma of Professional Game Development - Game Art & Animation (CIP Code 11.0803). 2. Advanced Diploma of Professional Game Development - Game Programming (CIP Code 11.0804). 3. Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media - 3D Animation & VFX for Film (CIP Code 10.0304). 4. Advanced Diploma of Professional Game Development - Game Design & Production (CIP Code 50.0411). The Advanced Diploma courses were developed to support industry needs, driven by extensive consultation with local and international game development studios and visual effects professionals. Each Advanced Diploma is a two-year full-time course, providing individual and team centric training in the processes of developing the competencies and skills necessary to gain employment with game and film studios, related industries, and the development of graduates' independent games. In academic year 2023-2024, AIE - WA had 3 cohorts attending for a total of 112 students of which 43 graduated in July 2024. Game artists design the environments, create the characters and craft the vehicles for the game. They can specialize in modeling, texturing, animation, and level design. Developing game art utilizes a dynamic medium that showcases creative ability. Students work with other artists and programmers to design and create their own unique entertainment experiences using cutting-edge game technology. Game programmers drive the game development process, creating the framework, functionality and interaction in the game. As the essential ingredient in the development process, game programmers are highly valued and in high demand. In contrast to Game Art, 3D Animation & VFX for Film students acquire skills necessary to develop exciting careers in game development, film, and TV. It is a practical course designed to give students top-tier technical training to work as 3D artists using the latest state-of-the-art technology. Game designers are the visionaries and evangelists for a game development project. They thrive on new ideas and are always thinking about how users will interact and enjoy the experience that they've created. A great game designer possesses a combination of technical knowledge, artistic skill and most importantly, the ability to communicate and understand people. Game designers spend significant amounts of time writing detailed documents specifying game mechanics, environments, playable characters and the game's nemesis. This detail extends right down to how a particular item might behave, be animated and sound.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0The Organization is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501 ( c )(3) of the U.S.

Scholarships are awarded to both first and second-year students in the form of reduced tuition, generally to those with the highest need.
