“Our mission as the timpanogos symphony orchestra (tso) is to inspire audiences with high-caliber performances while nurturing the love of symphonic music and enriching and creating community. For nine seasons, our 75-member, audition-only, community orchestra has enjoyed enthusiastic support from both musicians and audiences alike. We continually strive to expand our audiences and influence through educational programs in title 1 schools and in the wider community.”

“The tso staged five concert sets during its 2019-20 concert season, all but one consisting of two concerts. We shared the stage with over 230 guest performers, including the combined choirs of utah valley university, violinist and professor alexander woods, popular performers marvin goldstein and vanessa joy, and over forty students from the lyceum concert orchestra. Despite our having to cancel the final season concert due to covid-19, more than 5600 community members enjoyed tsos programming over the season.”

“In addition to our season concerts, the tso provided an educational school concert for several hundred students at barratt elementary in american fork on october 1, 2019. This assembly featured selections from gustav holsts the planets, performed live with nasa solar system images and animations as a backdrop, as well as favorites from star wars. To prepare the students in advance and to extend their learning, we provided a 24-page packet of coordinating curriculum materials for use in the schools science and music classrooms.”

“Beyond our musical programming, the tso sponsored a number of educational programs designed to nurture the appreciation of symphonic music and enrich the lives of community members. To increase understanding of the music we performed, we hosted four classical connections lectures for the general public and eight pre-concert receptions for our season ticket-holders. We also published seven blog posts and twelve podcast episodes. Dozens of children took advantage of our halloween concerts instrument petting zoo to learn about the various instruments of the orchestra.”
