| IRS990/Desc | 0 | The organization operated the following programs in 2015: Free public classes held on Saturday morningsThese classes are publicized on Facebook, on our website, through the email newsletter and by word of mouth. The average attendees are local professionals dancers, college dance students and Staibdance company members. When company members teach, they do so as a volunteer service. We also sometimes employ outside teachers such as Sarah Hillmer, a ballet mistress at Atlanta Ballet. Because George Staib, Staibdance artistic director, works at Emory University, we may use rehearsal space without charge, which allows us to provide the classes without charging a fee. Our projected annual expense for this class series is about $600 per year about one outside guest teacher per month. Approximately 10 percent of our time is spent on these free public classes.Rehearsals/PerformancesCompany members meet, usually at Emory where we receive free space, twice a week when we are working on a project. Usually this means 2 to 3 months, meeting for 2 hours on Monday and Wednesday nights with the occasional Saturday rehearsal when we get closer to the show. Generally, we are in rehearsal 6-8 months out of the year. The Company normally consists of 8-15 dancers. Dancers are paid based on how long theyve been with the company. If in their first year, they receive $10 an hour for rehearsal, 1-2 years receive $12, more than 2 years receive $15. Everyone is paid a small stipend for performance, usually $50-$100 depending on ticket revenue. Company members receive compensation after the performance, after expenses have been paid (lighting, house management, space rental if applicable, costumes) and ticket revenue has been collected. Depending on the month and when the next concert will be performed, we usually spend between 30-50 percent of our time rehearsing for performances and/or in performance.Summer program in ItalyPlanning for this trip dominates our administrative activities from February to July. We spend about 60% of our time on it, and more as we get closer. Kathleen Wessel and George Staib volunteer their time to do most of the preparation including in-person recruitment at colleges and festivals in the region, emailing and posting announcements, keeping in touch with interested students, etc. Currently, we accept students to this program on a first-come, first-serve basis, but reserve the right to refuse admittance if a dancers proficiency level is not high enough to effectively participate. Also, as the programs popularity has increased, we have to limit the enrollment as there is only so much space in the rehearsal halls and at the hotel. 90% of our participants in the past 4 years have been college students. We also have some professional dancers, dance teachers, and a few high school students (usually high school seniors). We advertise on social media, through email blasts, through word-of-mouth from past participants, in person at the Southeast Regional American College Dance Conference, and through guest classes at other colleges. This year we traveled to Winthrop University, University of Alabama and Sodra Latins in Stockholm, Sweden and advertised the program. We were invited to perform and give a lecture demonstration at Winthrop and Sodra Latins, so advertisement for Italy was not the primary purpose for those 2 trips. There were 38 participants in the 2015 Summer Intensive.We usually have 6-7 faculty members teaching various classes. Only one of those faculty members, Gavriel Spitzer, receives payment for this teaching. He receives $150 per class and a lunch stipend of $150 for the 2 weeks (this is mandated through the Gaga institution as he is a certified Gaga teacher). Student tuition covers all faculty expenses including airfare. |
