Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Depave promotes the transformation of over-paved places to overcome the social and environmental impacts of pavement. Depave hosts volunteer events to engage community members in removing pavement and creating green space.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
In 2019, Depave engaged approximately 330 volunteers for a total of 1300 volunteer hours in removing asphalt, installing native plants, and supplemental construction across the Portland metropolitan region, including Powell Butte Elementary, Sitton Elementary, Siletz Tribal Office, Plaza 122, and Kelly Elementary. In addition, Depave hosted Green Thumbs weeding and site maintenance work parties at two past Portland sites (Lewis Elementary and James John Elementary). Through our placemaking projects, we removed over 10,200 square feet of pavement and reduced annual stormwater runoff by about 224,400 gallons. Depave planted 1,101 trees, shrubs, and other native plants. Half of the sites will be planted in Fall 2020, which will likely double this number. By reducing impervious surfaces and utilizing green infrastructure techniques such as rain gardens and bioswales, Depave reduced stormwater runoff and contributed to improved water quality.$147,857-
