Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Clean energy trust (the "trust") was founded in april 2010 with the mission to support and promote clean energy and resource efficiency technologies and businesses in illinois and the greater midwest region. Through investment, mentoring, coaching, and venture development support, the trust strives to help entrepreneurs bring innovative clean technologies to market and to build viable commercial enterprises that create jobs, further economic development, and better the environment. Through these efforts, the trust also helps foster a stronger innovation ecosystem in the midwest that is supportive of new venture creation. The trust focuses on the following clean technology sectors: renewable energy, energy storage, energy efficiency, mobility and transportation, energy analytics, grid technologies, water technologies, waste reduction technologies, and agricultural technologies that further sustainable agricultural practices.

We deploy patient capital for a world that can't afford to wait. We cultivate early potential: investing where others see risk, we turn possibility into reality. We connect the climate ecosystem: bringing together innovators, investors, and institutions, we harness the midwest's potential. We catalyze outsized impact: investing with agility and efficiency, we uncover the climate solutions that will change the world.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The governing body is provided a reasonable amount of time to review the return and ask any questions directly to organization management or the contact at the independent cpa firm prior to filing. A copy of the return is sent to the full board once approved.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Officers, directors, trustees and key employees are annually required to complete a conflict of interest disclosure statement as a precursor to their service to the organization. Potential conflicts are logged with and monitored by the secretary of the board, and board members are asked to confirm at each quarterly board meeting whether there are any conflicts.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The board of directors, under the leadership of the chair person, determines compensation of the executive director. The board evaluates the reasonableness of the compensation through the use of comparative information about similarly situated executives in similarly situated organizations. The board weighs this information in determining the executive director's compensation. The board votes on compensation without the executive director present for the conversation. The board documents its processes on paper. A similar process as mentioned in the prior statement is used for all management employees.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Governing documents and financial statements are available to the public upon request.

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is a nonprofit organization and has been determined to be exempt from income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and, accordingly, no provision has been made for either federal or state income taxes.
