“The treasurer will hold a finance committee meeting and review the 990 prior to filing. The treasurer will report findings to the full board. The full board will receive a copy of the final version of the 990.”

“All potential conflicts of interest are immediately brought to the attention of the executive director and/or board chair. The potential is brought to the board. After a conflict of interest is determined, the interested person may make a presentation at a board meeting. After the presentation, the individual will leave the meeting. The board will discuss and vote on the possible conflict of interest and the appropriate course of action. All board members are included under the conflict of interest policy.”

“Part of the budget process is to review the most recent non-profit salary survey to ensure employees are adequately compensated. In so doing, the executive director position as well as other key positions are adjusted. The salary recommendations are brought to the finance committee who votes on the appropriate adjustments to make. The following key positions were reviewed during 2017 using this process: executive director, chief operating officer, chief finance officer, chief development officer, and chief communications officer. The board chairperson signs off on the executive director's salary change (and is responsible for conducting a review).”

“2017 was a big year for faciity expansion which allowed us to increase the number of bednights from 101,543 in 2016 to 175,286 in 2017. We closed one amazon owned shelter and occupied another one across the street which allowed us to shelter another 100 guests per night. We received support from king county for the first time and moved into two of their buildings (one in white center and one in kenmore). We signed a lease with a private family to occupy a vacant restaurant in shoreline which sleeps 40 guests per night. We also utilized several private homes for our popsicle place families while owners waited for construction permits. At year end, we still occupied two of those houses (one in auburn and one in shoreline). Last we signed a lease with the port of seattle to occupy storage space for donations and supplies and we moved our administrative and development teams into a vacant downtown building owned by vulcan.”
