Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
One of our primary goals remains to raise awareness of FASD in the areas of aiding those so afflicted as well as prevention. We have worked hard at continuing education both for us and others as the year progressed. We have worked over the phone as consultant and listening ear to those with FASD as well as those working with FASD children. In addition to that we have given input to foster parents of FASD kids. We completed working on a state initiated FASD task force developing a plan to raise awareness of FASD.The more we dig into the FASD dilemma, the more we realize the effect this has had on individual lives as well as society. The cost to society is astronomical as is the cost to families and individual lives. We live in an area of the state where many communities have potentially high rates of affected individuals. The need for counseling has been high over the past year.We have spearheaded a task force for quite a number of years on the need for a Christian Boarding School with the primary focus of vocational training for bush Alaska students. We began a partnership with Amundsen Education Center with the goal of them taking on the facilitating of this need and us providing the consulting and direction. In 2023 we completed our involvement in the Board of Directors for this essential work. It opened during the fall of 2024. The Piper PA28 was donated to the Board School as part of this effort.Alcohol consumption has taken its toll on many we work with during Covid. The isolation and boredom experienced by many has lead to bad relationships that often end tragically. Many hours were spent counseling over the phone with these affected individuals. The choices made during this time will far outlast the Covid pandemic. Our work will continue into the future with those so negatively affected. In addition to the above mentioned services, we have been able to provide housing at no charge to a family who moved to our community to pastor at the local church. This family has had a great community outreach program providing both youth and adult activities and support roles within the community.New outreaches that we are spear heading are as follows:1) We have used aviation competitions for youth education for many years in remote areas of Alaska. We started the process of putting together a statewide aviation mentoring program that involves competition as well as monthly aviation projects for students and mentors. Our first competition occurred in March 2024. We have been recruiting students and coach/mentors for the launch of this program.2) We have started a bi-weekly gathering of the youth we have worked with in the past that had severe early childhood trauma. Now as adults, they are struggling and many are repeating the cycles of dysfunction they hated as they were growing up. The bi-weekly meetings have been well attended thus far. We look forward to growing this group in the coming year.3) The terrorist attacks of October 2023 has left many traumatized individuals in Israel and the antisemitism spreading across has also left many living in fear in our nation. We began in November 2023 partnering with a ministry that focuses on Israeli tourist opportunities in Alaska. We have begun the process of setting up a safe retreat for those needing rest. This was also a part of our focus in 2024.$0$0
