| Covid has certainly impacted our work over the past year. With travel restrictions and gathering restrictions we were limited by what we could do in 2022. That said, we were able to accomplish quite a bit using available technology. One of our primary goals remains to raise awareness of FASD in the areas of aiding those so afflicted as well as prevention. We have worked hard at continuing education both for us and others as the year progressed. We have worked over the phone as consultant and listening ear to those with FASD as well as those working with FASD children. In addition to that we have given input to FASD foster parents via a state support group, worked on a state initiated FASD task force and discovered the value of ZOOM in the process. The more we dig into the FASD dilemma, the more we realize the effect this has had on individual lives as well as society. The cost to society is astronomical as is the cost to families and individual lives. We live in an area of the state where many communities have potentially high rates of affected individuals. Covid has been really hard on those with FASD as well as families with FASD individuals in them. The need for counseling has been high over the past year.We have spearheaded a task force for quite a number of years on the need for a Christian Boarding School with the primary focus of vocational training for bush Alaska students. We began a partnership with Amundsen Education Center with the goal of them taking on the facilitating of this need and us providing the consulting and direction. Over the past year staff has been recruited and the groundwork has been laid for the opening of this school over the next few years. 2022 was a year of building the facility. A partnership was formed with Samaritan's Purse who facilitated the building of the first dorm in 2022. Time was spent fundraising using technology rather than in person meetings due to Covid. The first dorm was built fully funded in 2022! We look forward to continued involvement over the coming years.Alcohol consumption has taken its toll on many we work with during Covid. The isolation and boredom experienced by many has lead to bad relationships that often end tragically. Many hours were spent counseling over the phone with these affected individuals in 2022. The choices made during this time will far outlast the Covid pandemic. Our work will continue into the future with those so negatively affected. We will spend this year focusing on the boarding school development as well as FASD outreach and training. In addition to that we will continue to be a driving force in education of youth that produces better life long outcomes.2022 also allowed us to lead another Warriors on Wheels youth trip with young people from the village of Kobuk, Alaska. They had experienced two suicides and quite a number of young people were making poor choices as a result. Parents ask the local pastor if he and his wife could take some teens out of the village for a while. The local pastor called us and asked if we would help lead this trip. We flew the students to Seattle and purchased vehicles there. We drove cross country to Illinois to Warrior Leadership Summit, a Native American leadership conference for youth. The trip was one month long and we were thankful to have a part in it. In addition to the above mentioned services, we have been able to provide housing at no charge to a family who moved to our community to pastor at the local church. This family has had a great community outreach program providing both youth and adult activities and support roles within the community. The boarding school is on schedule to open the fall of 2023. | $0 | $0 |
