VOLUNTEERS WHO WANT TO BE OF SERVICE AND THE LARGER LOCAL COMMUNITY ARE SERVED AS WELL. HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK: A PARTICIPANT SELF REFERS OR A PARTICIPANT IS REFERRED BY A SOCIAL AGENCY; A NEEDS ASSESSMENT IS GIVEN TO DETERMINE NEEDS AND APPROPRIATENESS OF PLACEMENT; AN APPLICATION PROCESS IS REQUIRED THAT CHECKS CREDIT, INCLUDES DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING, BACKGROUND AND VARIOUS IN-TAKE FORMS. THIS PROCESS IS IN PLACE NOT TO ELIMINATE CANDIDATES BUT TO ASSIST WITH APPROPRIATE DIRECTION; APPLICANT IS REVIEWED BY THE DIRECTOR AND THEN ASSIGNED TO COACHES BASED ON NEEDS AND REQUESTS FOR ASSISTANCE.ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE AN ASSIGNED LEAD COACH, A MONEY HABITS' COACH AND A COUNSELOR, OTHER COACHING COMPONENTS ARE ASSIGNED AS DETERMINED BY PARTICIPANT'S NEEDS.PARTICIPATION IS A YEARLONG COMMITMENT WITH EXTENSION IF THE PARTICIPANT IS COMMITTED AND CONTINUOUSLY WORKING ON SELE-IMPROVEMENT.ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO SIGN A CONTRACT FOR SUCCES WHICH OUTLINES THE INTENTIONS OF PROJECT HOPE AND THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PARTICIPANT. THE CONTRACT IS USED AS AN ACCOUNTABILITY TOOL; FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS OFFERED TO THOSE SEEKING EDUCATIONAL GOALS; OTHER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (RENT, HEALTH, TRANSPORTATION, CLOTHING (IE INTERVIEW, CHILDREN'S NECESSITIES AND ETC.) WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE DIRECTOR IF THE PARTICIPANTS'S COACHING TEAM ADVISES SUPPORTIVE HELP. THE OVERARCHING GOAL IS TO STRIVE FOR PERSONAL SELF-SUFFICIENCY. THE FOCUS/STRENGTH OF PROJECT HOPE IS IN ITS RELATIONSHIP BUILDING MODEL. BUILDING A RELATIONSHIP AND SUPPORT NETWORK WITH THE PARTICIPANT INCREASES THE DEGREE OF SUCCESS AND PROVIDES AN AVENUE FOR PERSONAL GROWTH. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH TRAINING THE COACHES BEFORE THEY ARE MATCHED WITH A PARTICIPANT.FOLLOWING UP ON NEEDS: SUPPORTING THE COACHES THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS AND FREQUENT COMMUNICATION WITH COACHES AS WELL AS WRITTEN FEEDBACK ON STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF COACHNG SESSIONS. ENCOURAGEMENT IS GIVEN TO BOTH PARTICIPANTS AND COACHES AS THEY FORGE A RELATIONSHIP BASED ON TRUST, TRUTH, NON-JUDGMENT, AND UNDERSTANDING. NOT ONLY DO THE PARTICIPANTS BENEFIT FROM THE COMMITMENT OF THE PROGRAM'S FRAMEWORK, BUT THE COACHES EXPERIENCE GROWTH AS WELL.COMMUNITY WIDE OUTREACH OF PROJECT HOPE INCLUDES PROGRAMS SUCH AS WAKING UP TO PEACE, NATIONAL CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK EVENING OF EMPOWERMENT, GIRLS' NIGHT OUT, SINGLE MOMS' SUPPORT GROUP, SITE FOR LEGAL AID CLINIC, FAMILY RETREAT, WOMEN'S RETREAT.MORE THAN 146 FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED WITH TRANSFORMATIONAL (LONG TERM) AND IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE (COMMUNITY REFERRALS, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SUCH AS: UTILITY, TEMPORARY SHELTER, CLOTHING/HOUSEHOLD GOODS, RENT, GAS CARDS, BASIC NECESSITIES, ETC.) WERE SERVED.VOLUNTEERS WERE TRAINED TO SERVE AS COACHES, MENTORS, LEGAL AID HELPERS, ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT AND ON-CALL EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT. COACHES DELIVERED (ON AVERAGE) 4-10 HOURS PER WEEK OF MENTORING, TRAINING, AND CRISIS SUPPORT, EDUCATIONAL AND ENCOURAGING SUPPORT TO PARTICIPANT FAMILIES.

ADDITIONALLY 846 BACKPACKS FILLED WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES, 800 PAIRS OF JEANS AND 854 COATS WERE GIVEN TO CHILDREN OF PANTRY CLIENTS.
