“To serve individuals with aphasia, their families and the community through innovative life participation approaches that maximize communicative potential and reduce barriers to social reengagement.”
“Treatment services: group treatments are provided to individuals with aphasia. 2018 was a year of growth across service areas and the establishment of a strong 3 year strategic plan. In 2018 we continued to provide group programming to stimulate multimodal communication, reading and writing, as well as life engagement activities. Throughout the year we continued to add new groups and our accomplishments were eventually recognized nationally by the american stroke association's prestigious raise award for group programming.”
“Education & training services: tap unlimited continued to provide training at area civic organizations, support groups, & various agencies in 2018. Our friends & family division increased the offering of "learning to speak aphasia training" from every other month, to every month, while also continuing with communication support team training. We were able to train other rehab medicine professionals and are currently developing a more intensive training program. Our library and support networks are active and the collaboration with a counselor trained in aphasia has allowed us to address some of the mood issues related to chronic aphasia.”
“Community awareness services: the life participation approach gave us opportunities to collaborate with more community programs in 2018. These programs include our taproots group, which grew over a ton of food for those with food scarcity, as well as our tap into life group, which provided nonprofits like the ronald mcdonald house with volunteer work by our tap clients. In addition, our music therapy performance group, the taptastics, were asked to sing at the stroke awareness day.”
