“Spring joined the dobbs ferry food pantry as a co-partner in order to handle the exponential grown (over 300%) of families needing food support as a result of covid-19 pandemic. Spring volunteers and resources coordinated, staffed and funded the weekly distribution from march 2020 through the present.”
“Covid-19 food support program: since the very beginning of the local effects of the covid-19 pandemic in mid-march 2020, spring community partners and the dobbs ferry food pantry (of which spring community partners was a co-founder in 2011), quickly joined forces and resources to address food insecurity in the rivertown communities of dobbs ferry, ardsley, irvington and greenburgh. Both organizations had run long-standing food support programs benefitting local families and children, with the food pantry providing a centralized physical location and dedicated mission to weekly food distribution at its location at south presbyterian church in dobbs ferry. Working collaboratively, the two organizations have adapted to closures, restrictions and safety protocols, and have developed new models of food distribution and access, led by spring officers. The organizations are responding to local demand that has increased by over 100% between mid- march 2020 - june 2020; and by over 300% between mid- march, 2020 and march, 2021. In the spring and summer of 2020, on a monthly basis, an average of 150 families, totaling 550 people received shelf-stable food, fresh produce and additional prepared meals from partnerships created with local restaurants and caterers. Dobbs ferry families served by spring visiting the pantry comprised an average of 100 families, 410 people. Thanks to the generosity of donors, grants and fund-raising by both organizations, families have also received grocery store gift cards to supplement additional food needs. The collaboration of efforts of the two organizations and supporting individuals, faith communities and organizations expands capacity, allowing us to work cooperatively, efficiently, and responsively identifying and communicating with families in need, and directly addressing food insecurity and hunger that emanate from the covid crisis. Accounting, communication, and reporting systems coordinated by spring for this effort have also been created to specifically and efficiently identify and address needs relating to the crisis, its aftermath, and impacts, which are expected to last long after local restrictions are lifted. Served (weekly average): 430 individuals(114 families)”
