The Or Foundation (pronounced or") stands for choice. Choice is agency agency to escape the predominant violent socio-economic system of corporate colonialism and to change it from within. Working at the intersection of environmental justice, education and fashion development, our mission is to identify and manifest alternatives to the dominant model of fashion alternatives that bring forth ecological prosperity, as opposed to destruction, and that inspire citizens to form a relationship with fashion that extends beyond their role as consumer.

Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Our primary mission is to catalyze a Justice-Led Circular Economy and in so doing to improve public heath. In 2020 we reached a break through with the wide publication of our multi--year research into the secondhand clothing trade and its impact on communities and the environment. Due to the global pandemic we also mobilized our community to support vulnerable essential workers within the secondhand clothing trade with direct food aid and hygienic supplies.

The Or Foundation works at the intersection of education, environmental justice and fashion development to catalyze a justice-led circular textiles economy grounded in community ecological care.

Building on these findings we conduct weekly water and air sampling analysis along with regular passive air pollution monitoring in order to track the flow of waste pollution across the coastal environment. Through our first-of-its-kind solar powered research vessel, we will soon expand this monitoring and mapping effort off of the coastline and into the Gulf of Guinea.
