Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The Bridge DA Gap Movement is community outreach program designed to assist the world of music and the community to come together as one, in assisting economically disadvantaged at-risk youth and families facing crisis. The program specifically helps at-risk youth increase their coping skills and emulate healthy patterns instead of negative ones thus helping them to make better choices and have a fighting chance at being successful in life. This program endeavors to lower the incidence of emotional disorders brought on by domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, unemployment, homelessness and other problems that the individuals and families encounter on a day-to-day basis. This program heals the mind through music and ordinary individuals, that will help them bridge da gap between both worlds of musicians and non-musicians.

The Bridge DA Gap Mentoring Initiative is a program for students in elementary, middle and high school. A special component of our mentoring program is a male mentoring initiative for middle and high school students at the B.E.S.T. Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, with volunteer mentors from Morehouse College. In addition to our curriculum, theprograms focus is on fostering academicsand career exploration in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) fields. Our mentors also attend off-site educational and recreational field trips with students. More than half of the student population at B.E.S.T. (150 students) were impacted during 2015 through our mentoring program activities and our Bridge DA Gap motivational concerts.--
The Bridge DA Gap Youth Empowerment Concert/Motivational Message is an exciting 1-hour performance by Khao for middle and high school students. It is designed to reach youth where they are and motivate them using songs and content from our curriculum. Topics covered during the concert include patience, self-love, and goal attainment. In 2015, Khao performed 15 Bridge DA Gap concerts, reaching approximately 5,000 students He directly delivered his inspirational message to youth in our local Metro-Atlanta area (such as the Harland Boys & Girls Club) and to students as far away as the New London Science and Technology Magnet High School in New London, Connecticut, and in Madison, Wisconsin.--
In honor of Bridge DA Gaps National Youth Empowerment Day, 0ur Gala was held at the 200 Peachtree building in Atlanta, Georgia. On this night we honored individuals who have significantly impacted the lives of our youth: Chris Ludacris Bridges (actor and music artist), Madeline Nelson (Senior Vice President of Sony Music), Dr. Ben Carson (neurosurgeon, author and presidential candidate), Gary Eppinger (Global Chief Information Security Officer and Privacy Officer at Carnival Cruise Lines), Tommy Dortch (Entrepreneur) and C.T. Vivian (Civil Rights Activist, author and founder of Upward Bound). Special recognition was given to Anthony Delgado (I Care Atlanta) and Dr. Alexander Ghee (Nehemiah Center for Urban Leadership Development) for their work in the community. Over 300 people attended the event and the evening concluded with a special performance by Speech from the award winning music group Arrested Development.--
