Supporting World Vision's water projects in Zambia
Waterafrica's primary purpose is to raise money to grant to u.s. Based nonprofit organizations that operate to transform the lives of people living in developing countries by providing safe water, sanitation and hygiene. To educate, inform and raise the awareness among people living in developed countries of the need for safe water, sanitation and hygiene for developing countries.to date, waterafrica has teamed up with world vision to provide water, sanitation and hygiene in rural zambia. Waterafrica has served to support world visions development model that utilizes a five point approach to community development. Those five points include water and sanitation, food security, education, health care and income development. The water and sanitation that waterafrica helps world vision provide to rural zambians is the foundational element necessary to build toward sustainable, holistic development. | The 2014 Financial Year was WaterAfrica's fifth year of existence.During the 2014 Financial Year, WaterAfrica granted $120,000 to World Vision, which used the funds to provide a lifetime of water, sanitation and hygiene to over 2,400 people living in undeveloped areas of Zambia.In addition, WaterAfrica raised the awareness of developing countries' need for water, sanitation and hygiene by doing the following:1. Conducting a Lake Oswego, Oregon Walk for Water event simulating the daily routine of women all over the world walking to get water. The event attracted 300 participants and raised over $70,000.2. Presentations regarding the issues surrounding the lack of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene in developing countries to numerous civic, school and church groups.WaterAfrica has been blessed to partner with World Vision, which has been activiely providing clean water in Zambia for many years. In 1990, only 22% of the population in rural Zambia had safe drinking water. In 2011, due to the efforts of WaterAfrica, World Vision and others, 50% of rural Zambians had safe drinking water. Since 2006, WaterAfrica has provided 26,000 Zambians with clean water, sanitation and hygiene. From 2010 to 2014, our partner, World Vision has provided safe drinking water to over 462,000 people in Zambia. World Vision expects to provide clean water to 700,000 people by the end of 2016. The goal of WaterAfrica is to provide an additional $1 Million in funding by the year 2020 to assist World Vision's intitiatives in Zambia.A donation of $50 provides clean water, sanitation and hygiene training for one person for their lifetime. A $200 donation trains a community hygiene promoter who then serves 10 households and a $400 donation provides trainers for a 10 person water, sanitation and hygiene committee. A $2,000 donation rehabilitates a water pump and $5,000 builds an improved ventilated pit latrine at a school serving 500 students. $15,000 provides a borehole, including all sanitation and hygiene training for 250 to 350 people. | $17,719 | $195,000 |
