Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Blue Rose Compass, Inc. provides full scholarships at leading Universities globally for disadvantaged youth living in refugee camps and also displaced refugees.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Blue Rose Compass (BRC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving gifted young refugees the opportunity to develop their talents and become agents of change in the world.BRC travels to conflict zones in the Middle East, Africa, East Asia and Latin America to identify young adults who have exceptional academic talent and leadership qualities. BRC helps them secure scholarships at top universities around the world and find them summer internships and work when they graduate.BRC partners with governments and corporations that recognize refugees as a resource, not a burden. Fortune 500 companies employ many of our graduates. Without BRCs intervention, the talents of these exceptional individuals would most likely go to waste. The NGOs that work hard to cater to more than 50 million refugees understandably prioritize emergency needs such as safety, food and shelter. Education takes a back seat. Getting a job can be even harder. Relatively few governments take in refugees and permit them to work. In particular, talented young women in the regions BRC works in tend to be extremely marginalized. They are typically encouraged to marry young rather than to pursue their studies. Often cultural or political pressures keep them away from school. An education from an elite university can enable an individual to break their familys cycle of poverty. A well-paying job after graduation means they pay taxes and contribute to society. BRC asks our Scholars to commit to find opportunities, after graduation, to contribute to peace and rebuilding in their region of origin whether through work, financial contributions or cross-border projects. BRCs program encourages BRC Scholars to assimilate and integrate. Studying and learning alongside host community students promotes inclusion and mutual understanding. As beacons of hope and positive role models, BRC Scholars remind us that it is possible to create a future and impact the world no matter the region or origin.--BRC representatives travel to UN High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) camps throughout the world to locate potential scholarship recipients. Working with teachers and administrators in these refugee camps and underprivileged communities, BRC identifies qualified student candidates through evaluations of (1) local and national standardized testing or its equivalent, (2) psychological, emotional and physical testing conducted by certified partners, and (3) intensive interaction between BRC representatives and the families of student candidates. At present time, activities are focused on refugees or IDPs (Internally Displaced Person) in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, East Asia and Latin America. Interested applicants must have official refugee or displaced person status, unable to attain higher education without a full scholarship, have a desire to attend university abroad as a full-time student (and work part-time, if available and/or necessary), and have a deep commitment to contribute to the rebuilding and development of her country of origin after finishing her education. Prior to BRC's inception, its founder facilitated scholarships in the aggregate amount of $132,000.Since inception through 12-31-16, BRC facilitated scholarships in the aggregate amount of $438,861.It is expected that in the years 2017 and 2018, BRC will facilitate scholarships in the aggregate amount of $138,722.In addition, currently, BRC is in the process of the coordination of 216 scholarships in Argentina for 2018.$52,729$37,337
