“Part III Program Service Accomplishments:KEEPING IT WILD INC is a nonprofit corporation with a purpose to connect people to the land and to each other through education, recreation, information, and coordination in order to protect and restore the natural and wild lands of Georgia and the Southeast. Its an all volunteer organization that strives to involve urban people of all backgrounds in activites that promote an appreciation for the Earth and the natural environment.KEEPING IT WILD INC annually promotes hikes and outing events that include activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, snorkeling, and cycling. In 2018 KEEPING IT WILD INC completed 7 events with 173 attendees total. Part III, Line 28. SAPELO ISLAND - 29 participants took a tour of Reynolds Mansion on Sapelo Island, GA and viewed tabby houses and native American spiritual grounds. The group learned about several plants that were used as medicines for toothaches, high blood pressure, and indigestion. In addition, the group was educated about the protection of Sea Turtles on the island. The group was introduced to the marine biology program conducted by the State of Georgia. Locals pulled oysters from the oyster bay and roasted the oysters on a fire pit. Part III, Line 29. PATAGONIA presents building a more inclusive Adventure Community, An American Ascent, a film and discussion. This feature documentary is an exciting project with an inspiring narrative that demonstrates what is possible when ordinary men and women push beyond the boundaries of their own fears to achieve impossible goals. Expedition Denali, the first all-African American team of climbers challenged themselves on NAs highest point, a modern tale of epic porportions that aims to prod outdoor enthusiasts into the wilds of nature and across Adventure Gap. Afterward, Patagonia employees Scott Briscoe and Tyrhee Moore, both members of the expedition, will take part in a panel discussion about how to shrink the adventure gap by building a legacy of inclusion.”
