Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Board chair - renee rolleri and vice chair - matthew goldman have a family relationship.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

The members are the trustees.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

Members are elected by the existing members from time to time at any annual meeting of members or at any special meeting of members called for election of members. A majority of those persons who at any time constitute the membership of the corporation may, from time to time, fix the number of members of the corporation. The qualifications and eligibility for membership is prescribed by resolution of the members in good standing and/or by any similarly prescribed rules and regulations which the members in good standing may promulgate. In addition, the manner of suspension or termination of membership and for reinstatement, if any, and, the conditions, rights, liabilities, and other incidents of membership.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The school's policy is to present the form 990 to its board of trustees including all required supplemental schedules. Each member of the board of trustees will receive a copy of the form 990 prior to the submission of the form to the internal revenue service.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

All trustees, officers and key employees of blue school execute a conflict of interest policy statement on an annual basis. When a conflict exists the chairperson of the governing board or committee shall, if appropriate, appoint a disinterested person or committee to investigate alternatives to the proposed transaction or arrangement. After exercising due diligence, the governing board or committee shall determine whether the school can obtain with reasonable efforts a more advantageous transaction or arrangement from a person or entity that would not give rise to a conflict of interest. If a more advantageous transaction or arrangement is not reasonably possible under circumstances not producing a conflict of interest, the governing board or committee shall determine by a majority vote of the disinterested trustees (or if there are no such disinterested trustees, by a majority vote of the isinterested officers) or committee members, as the case may be, whether the transaction or arrangement is in the school's best interest, for its own benefit, and whether it is fair and reasonable. In conformity with the above determination it shall make its decision as to whether to enter into the transaction or arrangement.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The board determines the head of school and the cfo's compensation. The head of school, with support from the cfo determines all other employees' compensation. Head of school and cfo compensation discussions are documented in meeting minutes.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The school makes its conflict interest of policy & governing documents available to the public upon request.

IRS990/Desc0BLUE SCHOOL OFFERS A DYNAMICALLY BALANCED EDUCATION TO OVER 300 STUDENTS FOCUSING ON ACADEMIC MASTERY, SELF & SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE, AND CREATIVE THINKING. IN ORDER FOR DEEP ACADEMIC WORK TO TAKE PLACE, A CHILD MUST BE KNOWN AND SEEN AND MUST BE GIVEN ROOM TO BRING THEIR FULL SELF, THEIR MYRIAD QUESTIONS AND THEIR BOLD IDEAS INTO THE CLASSROOM.BLUE SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE GIVEN THE SKILLS TO BE PROBLEM SOLVERS AND ARE ENCOURAGED TO EXAMINE EVERY FACET OF A CHALLENGE. STUDENTS ENTER THE SCHOOL BUILDING KNOWING THAT THEIR IDENTITIES WILL BE EMBRACED. CLASSROOMS ARE BUILT FOR COMMUNITY BUILDING, MUTUAL RESPECT, UNDERSTANDING OF SELF AND OTHERS. EVERY DAY, CHILDREN MUST HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO BUILD, INVENT, PROBLEM SOLVE AND DREAM WHILE TEACHERS MEET THEM WITH CURIOSITY AND UNDERSTANDING.YOUNG CHILDREN SEEK TO UNDERSTAND, CREATE AND CONNECT WITH OTHERS AND WITH THE WORLD AROUND THEM. FOR THE PRE-PRIMARY PROGRAM, WE ENCOURAGE THIS INNATE MOTIVATION TO EXPLORE AND LEARN BY LISTENING AND RESPONDING TO CHILDREN'S QUESTIONS AND IDEAS, OFFERING DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENTS AND INVITING MATERIALS THAT ALLOW CHILDREN TO ENGAGE ALL OF THEIR SENSES, AND CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLLABORATION, DISCUSSION AND MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS. PRIMARY CHILDREN-GRADES KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 5TH GRADE-ENTER A STAGE OF DEVELOPMENTAL INTEGRATION IN WHICH THEY ARE ORGANIZING AND COMBINING VARIOUS SKILLS TO ACCOMPLISH INCREASINGLY COMPLEX TASKS AND TO UNDERSTAND CONCEPTS. CHILDREN DEVELOP MORE FULLY INTO UNIQUE AND CURIOUS INDIVIDUALS WHO COMPREHEND AND FORMULATE QUESTIONS AND IDEAS ABOUT THEIR IMMEDIATE WORLD. THEY LEARN TO THINK LOGICALLY, ANTICIPATE OUTCOMES, CLASSIFY OBJECTS AND SOLVE PROBLEMS. CHILDREN ARE GUIDED AND CHALLENGED TO REFLECT ON THEIR LEARNING PROCESS, RECEIVE INDIVIDUAL FEEDBACK, AND VIGOROUSLY REVISE WORK. THE WORK CARRIED OUT IN THIS PROCESS MIRRORS THE AUTHENTIC AND COLLABORATIVE WORK OF THE REAL WORLD.ADOLESCENTS HAVE ENORMOUS POTENTIAL FOR COURAGEOUS AND CREATIVE WORK. IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS, THE HUMAN BRAIN CHANGES AT A RATE MATCHED ONLY BY THE FIRST THREE YEARS OF LIFE, AND CHILDREN'S CAPACITIES ARE NATURALLY STRENGTHENED. BLUE SCHOOL'S MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO HARNESS THE POTENTIAL OF ADOLESCENTS TO ACT ON THEIR IDEAS, PURSUE HIGH LEVELS OF SCHOLARSHIP, AND BECOME MORE FULLY REALIZED AS PEOPLE AND LEARNERS.
