"As result of the many resilience activities that Smart Home America has influenced over the last three years we were able to partner with and support the Department of Homeland Security's Resilience STARTM Home Pilot Project on the Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast. The Resilience STARTM designation, which is modeled after the Environmental Protection Agency's successful ENERGY STAR campaign, will be given to structures that are built to withstand damage from certain disasters, utilizing the standards and third-party verification process in the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety's (IBHS) FORTIFIED programs (http://www.dhs.gov/blog/2013/11/18/engineering-resilience-resilience-star-home-pilot-project).$0$0
" Smart Home America working with Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Alabama, The Allstate Foundation, Sea Grant Mississippi - Alabama and the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety Fortified Home Program successfully completed several demonstration projects that brought significant news coverage throughout the gulf coast region. WLOX Channel 13 which covers the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama aired the story multiple times reaching thousands of citizens. The Sun Herald which is the regional print media for the Mississippi coast ran print and digital articles also reaching thousands.$0$0
"Smart Home America worked with and supported the Alabama Department of Insurance to assist in the development and launch of the Strengthen Alabama Homes Mitigation program. The Alabama State Legislature established the Strengthen Alabama Homes Act designed to aid Alabama homeowners to improve their homes with updated building modifications, also known as retrofitting, that minimizes property loss due to hurricane or other catastrophic windstorm events. The Alabama Department of Insurance offers grant programs, subject to availability of funding, to assist retrofitting homes for qualified homeowners. Smart Home America held outreach and education events to get the information out to the public and organized press release and press events to get information out to the citizens of Alabama about the launch of this program. Smart Home America also provide contractor training on the IBHS FORTIFIED Home program and on the Strengthen Alabama homes Mitigation program.$0$0
