Green Tech is committed to providing career technical education, job creation, job training, and entrepreneurial opportunities in the green economic sector. The program serves as a critical economic development resource for people from underprivileged backgrounds. Green Tech is charged with simultaneously developing clean energy workforce skills and reversing the negative human impact on our environment.

| Technical Pilot ProjectsGreen Tech offers hands on technical experience within the industrial arts for entry level workforce skills set and project-based learning opportunities. Projects include, small-scale building structures, energy auditing and solar technology projects. The Green Tech Solar Suitcase project trains students on how to build a portable photovoltaic lighting system. 150 Students have participated in the Solar Suitcase Project and introduced to basic electrical circuitry and solar technology. Upon completion of the project, students assist Green Tech in delivering the lighting system to developing countries. Green Tech students have built more than 120 solar suitcases, and have deployed them to Haiti, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Cameroon and Kenya.In 2013, Green Tech began developing its Healthy Food Aquaponics project. Ten students have assisted Green Tech with rehabilitating a residential property in the Oak Park neighborhood, preparing the land to build a 1,000 sq ft greenhouse and then building a food production system with tanks for edible fish and shelving for hydroponically grown vegetables.Green Tech began its computer coding and programming workshops during the spring of 2013 with five students learning to develop code for android smartphone applications. | Classroom InstructionGreen Tech students are introduced to the clean energy economy and career opportunities through interactive discussions, multi-media and special guest presentations. Green vocabulary and terminology are introduced and examined through written and verbal assessment. In-class activities also include technical and craft projects, critical thinking exercises (debate, think-pair-share, etc.) and career readiness exercises. Green Tech then organizes site visits and detailed presentations to its students to connect classroom instruction with everyday workplace experiences. 70 Green Tech students have visited twenty business establishments including four different construction sites with presentation about the buildings green features, a hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing plant, a federal science lab, the California electric grid, a biofuel energy plant among others. | Community OutreachGreen Tech provides community service through multiple forms of service learning opportunities. Green Tech students volunteer their services at Soil Born Farms, pulling weeds, watering and tending fruits and vegetables and providing necessary farm work assistance. In addition, Green Tech attends various career fairs, education and government events including Earth Day at Southside Park and Senator Steinberg's Passport to Summer Career Fair at Cosumnes River College and the Sam Pannell Community Center.
