Mission

The organization is a non-profit, nongovernmental organization specializing in development of water and sanitation, housing, and public infrastructure for disaster affected and communities in need around the world.

Major Activities

Activity 2
With $1,800,000 in funding from chevron corporation, ari designed and constructed a new vocational training high school and 3 primary and secondary schools in west sumatra and western java that were destroyed by 2009 earthquakes in indonesia. The 4 schools provide a total of 31 classrooms, libraries and laboratories to 1,440 students and 180 teachers and staff. The 43,600 square foot vocational high school building is designed to also serve as the city's emergency command post with a helicopter landing paid on the third story roof for rescues in the event of a tsunami. All of these structures are designed to be healthy learning environments as well as seismic safe. In providing overall management to the construction of these schools, ari's primary focus was insuring conformance to the technical specifications and contracts with respect to materials, construction performance and finish. Surveillance and tests required for the technical provisions of the specifications are critical parts of ari's construction management. In addition, our personnel assigned to quality control are also responsible for implementation of our safety management plan.
Activity 3
Ari has begun the design and construction of a 48,000 square foot multi-purpose community facility in pekanbaru, indonesia. It will be the public venue for meetings, trainings, recreation, health and fitness activities, educational and social events. The facility will also serve as an emergency shelter in the event of a natural disaster in this earthquake-prone are. The governor of riau province requested assistance to provide a facility to house new and on-going efforts in the province that promote improved health and fitness, a well-trained and educated society, and social development that benefits families, in particular women and children. The facility will be open to community groups, training programs, associations and other civil society organizations, religious groups, and public entities to hold meetings or health and education-related events to meet the expanded needs of the growing population. Chevron usa has generously responded to the governor's request, funding a proposal from ari for contracting architectural/engineering design and construction by indonesian firms, and for overall construction management.

PREVIOUSLY PROVIDING WELLS TO SCHOOLS AND 2 MSF HOSPITALS, ARI WAS POSITIONED TO PROVIDE WELLS TO CAMPS, SCHOOLS, AND HEALTH FACILITIES WITH THIS ADDITIONAL $644,000 PROJECT. WATER IS BEING SUPPLIED BY OTHER ORGANIZATIONS, BY TRUCKS TO CAMPS AND HEALTH FACILITIES, AT THE HIGH COST OF $100 PER 2,500 GALLONS. ARI IS IMPLEMENTING THIS LARGE PROJECT SO THAT 6,000 FAMILIES AND 11 SCHOOLS NO LONGER NEED TO RELY UPON WATER TANKING. ARI HAS THE CAPACITY TO DRILL AND COMPLETE AT LEAST 4 WELLS PER WEEK. WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH A NUMBER OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS WORKING IN HAITI TO SELECT THE SITES WHERE WELL/BOREHOLES ARE NEEDED MOST. THESE AGENCIES WILL BE CONTRIBUTING UP TO $125,000 OF THE COSTS FOR THIS PROJECT, WITH UNICEF CONTRIBUTING $519,000, TO ENSURE THAT DISPLACED FAMILIES HAVE ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER.
