Crisis action has been coordinating a strong appeal to un member states and the arab league demanding an immediate end to the use of lethal force, this included supporting the following:1. The publication of an op-ed calling for a un security council resolution by a syrian activist in us, french, german and arabic press2. A joint call by more than 170 arab and international human rights groups for syria to be suspended from the arab league that was covered, among others, by the new york times, washington post and al hayat.in response to the pressure, the arab league made its first unified call on syria to immediately cease violence against civilians. While the security council remained deadlocked between two draft un resolutions, policymakers told crisis action that its advocacy was timely and persuasive.

Activity 3

In the democratic republic of congo, crisis action worked on various projects. One project was to minimize the threat of the brutal armed group the lords resistance army (lra). Crisis action brought together leading ngos in a major joint report,calling for action to prevent another christmas massacre by the lra. The report attracted significant media coverage and crisis action secured a rare briefing of the security council for partners. The advocacy had considerable impact within the un system: the un secretary-general agreed with the report's findings and the un peacekeeping mission engaged in new military patrols to deter lra attacks, which have been largely successful.
