“The paulie ayala foundation has historically focused on promoting youth development and sportsmanship through boxing training for youths. However, the foundation was approached by a parkinson's disease patient who had learned of a study done by a group in indianapolis that determined that a boxing training regimen was the best program for delaying the progress of parkinson's disease when combined with a program of proper diet and medication. The patient asked paulie ayala to design a boxing training regimen for parkinson's dissease patients. Mr. Ayala agreed and started a program service of the paulie ayala foundation known as punching out parkinson's. Initially, the program was envisioned as a small group of three or four people. However, with the funding raised in 2014, the program has grown to five classes (each class consisting of two one hour sessions each week). Each class is assigned 12 to 13 people and it is estimated that, on average, 10 people attend each session. Research has determined that the training regime of boxers is the ideal work out program for pd patients.
