Designed as an intensive, tuition-free, after-school music program, miami music project provides hundreds of children from at-risk demographics with a fully integrated music curriculum, excellent training from professional musicians and music educators, and opportunities for leadership and social development. The program is inspired by one of the most exciting initiatives in educational reform today, el sistema, a new model for social change through music and a visionary global movement that transforms the lives of children and the communities in which they live. Miami music project's programming builds the transferable practical skills needed to improve academic motivation, classroom success and social preparedness, and creates new avenues of cultural awareness in the city's most vulnerable communities. Since joining our program, our students have shown 85%-98% improvement in skills that are fundamental to their cognitive development, such as confidence, concentration, self-motivation, determination, self-esteem, communication, time management and leadership. Parents have reported that their children do better in school and 61% of them attributed this improvement to their child's participation in miami music project programs. During the fy 2015, miami music project continued to serve students (ages 6-18) across community-based chapters located in 4 under-served and immigrant communities: little haiti, liberty city, little havana and doral; with distinct populations - predominantly haitian, african american and hispanic. Students trained after-school, 3-5 days and 2 hours per child daily, receiving on average 280 hours of instruction annually per child. A team of professional musicians and highly skilled music educators - miami music project teaching artists, provided year-round instruction to all program participants. During the fy 2015, we had been able to impact more lives than ever before. The following are most notable highlights of the fy 2015: - a new chapter opened at the citrus grove middle school, serving the children of the little havana community and most advanced students from the other community chapters. - students from throughout miami-dade county participated in our annual 4- week summer music camp, in which they prepared various musical selections for the three-day concert series at the historic manuel artime theater, performing for close to 2,500 city of miami summer camps' participants. - selected students had the privilege of performing with other young musicians during the east coast seminario 2015, creating two large orchestras from all over the east coast of us at miller symphony hall in allentown, pa. - over 250 miami music project students, members of our children and youth orchestras, performed at the knight concert hall as part of the arsht center's family fest series. Close to 2,000 audience members enjoyed the show. - members of the miami music project young orchestra presented an energetic and crowd-inspiring appearance with sony masterworks artist, the piano guys, at the adrienne arsht center for the performing arts. - the first orchestra boot camp took place at citrus grove middle school for most advanced young musicians, providing high quality training and constructive learning experience, under the direction of our founding artistic director maestro james judd. -for the seventh consecutive year, miami music project received funding from miami-dade county department of cultural affairs, through its youth arts miami (yam) and summer, arts and science camps (sas-c) grant programs. - received continued funding from the state of florida, division of cultural affairs in direct support of fees associated with services provided by miami music project teaching artists. - received knight arts challenge 2014 grant award of 75,000 to enhance music instruction by implementing a new teacher training for professional artists. - secured funding from numerous local and family foundations, including the miami
