Mission

Tmc's mission is to cultivate creativity and excellence in the arts by engaging teen artists and writers in a publication process that affirms their voices and deepens their learning.

Major Activities

Activity 2
The student-mentoring workshop ("smw") provides students with one-to-one tutoring services that focus on art and literature creation and the professional publishing process. Through planning, editing, and trying new approaches, students will develop and strengthen their artistic and academic skills. Not only will students analyze the meaning of texts by drawing on literary concepts and genres, but they will also analyze how materials, inventions, and technologies effect and alter the visual arts. By participating in a range of collaborations with diverse partners, students will build on others' ideas and learn how to express their own clearly and persuasively. To become college and career ready, students must take part in a variety of rich, structured conversations - as part of a whole class, in small groups, and with a partner - the smw allows mentees to experience each scenario. Through 2011, this program was run completely by volunteers at no additional cost to the organization. Moving forward, however, as the organization grows and expands its services it is looking to streamline the workshop curriculum and hire a program director to factilitate this process.
