Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Staff and Directors review and sign the organization's Conflict of Interest policy annually. The Board revisits the policy regularly to determine if any staff or Directors have an interest that could give rise to conflicts. If conflict of interest is suspected, the Board will hold a group discussion of the potential conflict without the Director or staff present, and will hold a vote. This is documented in Board meeting minutes.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The organization's Compensation Program establishes the organization's compensation philosophy and metrics for determining pay position within established salary bands. For salary bands, the organization sets the market median (50th percentile) as its targeted position, based upon equal weighting of three variables: (1) current year operating budget, (2) field of work, and (3) geographic region. Employees fall above, at, or below the median depending on fit within the experience, expertise, and performance Quartiles, and via annual performance reviews. Compensation for the organization's key employees - the Executive Director and the Program Manager - is determined through the Compensation Program's framework. The process was undertaken for the Executive Director in 2018, and will be undertaken for the organization's Program Manager in 2019.

Over the year, Members submitted 82+ job applications, secured over 52 new jobs, and reduced household expenses by utilizing over 146 qualifying subsidies or benefits. Members were accompanied by bilingual navigators to 447+ critical appointments like social services appointments, driver's license tests, and domestic violence prevention appointments. 68 members facing potential loss of their homes retained their housing by resolving communications with housing management, reconciling penalties, and renewing contracts. Over 185 youth between the ages of 5 and 17 received free weekly in-home reading, tutoring, and homework help, and their parents received personalized support in making important school-related decisions.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Youth Community Advocates - Youth Community Advocates was a piloted Summer 2018 program to cultivate leadership skill-building opportunities for refugee youth. Resettled to the US to a complex social landscape of language and cultural barriers, and persistent social exclusion, refugee youth face continuous barriers to participating in extracurricular and summer activities that affirm, uplift, or catalyze their natural leadership abilities. A small cohort of youth held summer placements, for a small stipend, at RCP to assist with programmatic activities, and to practice the skills of serving as bilingual accompaniment partners for their own neighbors. In addition to this cohort of four youth, 32 other young refugee students participated in trainings on cultural resiliency, community organizing, and self-inquiry throughout the summer. Feedback surveys demonstrated that this was the only refugee-specific leadership opportunity for young people, and was a space that they felt comfortable and safe in being amongst so many other young people that share similar experiences and social identities.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Traditional Kitchens - Piloted in 2018, Traditional Kitchens is an initiative born out of RCP's mission to cultivate opportunities for refugee residents and cultural stewardship within the broader community. When refugee women seek employment in the US, language barriers often exclude them from opportunities. Moreover, because many women in certain countries cannot participate in their culture's workforce, US-based employers perceive them as having few to no transferable work skills. Un- and under-employment of refugee women in the Triangle is high; yet, as their culture's keepers of food traditions, they hold mastered skills in traditional cuisine and cooking. Through collaborations with community partners, Traditional Kitchens offers a name under which refugee women can prepare their culture's traditional foods and share them with the broader community. Traditional Kitchens seeks to connect refugee food makers with the broader community through the sharing of home-cooked meals. In 2018, 3 refugee women prepared 8 different meals for local community events, serving over 600 community members.

For salary bands, the organization sets the market median (50th percentile) as its targeted position, based upon equal weighting of three variables: (1) current year operating budget, (2) field of work, and (3) geographic region. Employees fall above, at, or below the median depending on fit within the experience, expertise, and performance Quartiles, and via annual performance reviews. Compensation for the organization's key employees - the Executive Director and the Program Manager - is determined through the Compensation Program's framework.
