Mission

The mission of Tanzania Development Support is to invest in sustainable community identified educational improvements for youth, especially girls, in the rural Mara region.

The mission of Tanzania Development Support is to support community identified educational improvements for youth, especially girls, in the Mara region as a way to escape poverty.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
TDS provided grants to UMABU (an NGO in Tanzania) to purchase over 5000 African authored books for the Library and Community Resource Center, a modern facility that was completed in 2016 and funded by TDS. The LCRC also saw a technological boost with the installation of a software called Koha. This free open-source library management system makes it easier for staff and volunteers to track circulation and membership.The grants also funded the construction an internet cell tower as part of the library project. The women owned water filter business that was funded by TDS is manufacturing and selling ceramic water filters that purify the highly contaminated water of the region and has seen an overall increase in business throughout the year. TDS established a scholarship fund in 2018 to provide secondary school full scholarships to up to 10 new students each year. The new scholarship program was launched in 2019 and focuses on providing a quality learning environment for the Mara region's most gifted girls$56,959$33,894
