“Dance program - provided over 2000 contact hours of immersive arts experience. In 2024, tango mercurio delivered an extensive program of more than 200 hours of dance instruction, spanning individual classes, series, workshops, and weekend intensive boot camp sessions in various dc wards. Highlights from our 2024 programming include: hosting buenos aires argentine tango maestra virginia pandolfi as our artist in residence, celebrating hispanic month in fall 2024 with free open-to-all introduction classes at la cosecha (union market), and resuming the live music program with 4 professional tango musicians performing at our bi-weekly tango social events.”

“Financial sustainability: maintained commitment to operating debt-free through expanded funding opportunities. Building on dcah grants received in 2022, and 2023, tango mercurio further expanded its funding with a 63,303 general operating support grant awarded in october 2024, supporting our initiatives celebrating and enhancing diversity in the dc tango community. Furthermore, tango mercurio received in 2023 10,000 to be spent over two years from the mihir desai foundation to support fundraising activities and staff compensation, reinforcing our financial stability and debt-free status.”

“Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion: expanded inclusivity initiatives and engagement, including with marginalized groups. Tango mercurio has significantly expanded its inclusivity initiatives. Noteworthy events include hosting a free movie screening on the african roots of tango during black history month 2025; free events during hispanic month 2024; bringing tango experiences to school students at multicultural bell school; hosting the first dmv tango organizers meeting to strengthen inclusivity and cohesion within the existing tango community; and initiating exciting partnerships with two non-profit dance studios in northeast dc - the dance place and joy of motion. There, we offered free intro classes to bring tango to these new dc communities and are working to train some of their teachers to become tango teachers in their communities. Furthermore, in collaboration with the dc queer tango collective we hosted a weekend of workshops, panel discussion, and dancing with visiting artists from across the us during 2024 pride month.”
