| THE MAGIC LADDER (ML) IS A FUNDAMENTALLY NEW TECHNOLOGY-BASED PEDAGOGY AND CURRICULUM FOR FACILITATING THE PROCESS OF LEARNING TO READ. DIFFERING FROM ALL PREVIOUS SYSTEMS OF READING INSTRUCTION, THE MAGIC LADDER ELIMINATES THE "VOCABULARY GAP" BY USING EACH STUDENT'S EXISTING SIGHT AND ORAL VOCABULARIES, AS WELL AS THEIR PERSONAL INTERESTS, TO CREATE 100% STUDENT- UNIQUE LEARNING TO READ EXERCISES AND READING MATERIALS. THE SYSTEM DRAMATICALLY REDUCES "CODE CONFUSION" THROUGH THE USE OF PCUES, AN INTELLIGENT, 'VISUAL PHONICS', FONT SYSTEM THAT SIMPLY AND SYSTEMATICALLY VARIES THE APPEARANCE OF LETTERS SO THAT THEY 'CUE' THE READER TO WHICH OF A LETTER'S POSSIBLE SOUNDS IT IS ACTUALLY MAKING IN THE WORD BEING READ. THE SYSTEM REDUCES "MIND-SHAME" BY REFRAMING STUDENTS' EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCES OF READING (TO REDUCE SELF-BLAME) AND BY ORCHESTRATING INCREMENTAL SUCCESSES THAT PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH EVIDENCE OF AND PRIDE IN THEIR IMPROVEMENT. THE MAGIC LADDER SOFTWARE IS WEB APPLICATION AND BACKGROUND DATABASE THAT IS USED TO COLLECT STUDENT VOCABULARY AND INTERESTS AND TO PROCESS SUCH STUDENT DATA INTO A STUDENT-UNIQUE LEARNING TO READ STAIRWAY. THE MAGIC LADDER ALSO INCLUDES PCUES AND UNIQUE COMPUTATIONAL LINGUISTICS PROGRAM THAT CAN BE USED TO VARY THE APPEARANCE OF LETTERS IN SYSTEMATIC WAYS THAT 'CUE' READERS TO WHICH OF A LETTER'S POSSIBLE SOUNDS IT IS MAKING IN ANY ACTUAL WORD IN WHICH IT IS APPEARING. THE SOFTWARE WE ARE DEVELOPING WILL BE FREELY PROVIDED TO SCHOOLS SYSTEMS AROUND THE U.S. | - | $54,925 |

“The magic ladder (ml) is a fundamentally new technology-based pedagogy and curriculum for facilitating the process of learning to read. The software we are developing will be freely provided to schools systems around the u.s.”
