Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 2

Michael Haas and James Eisen - Business relationship

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11

A copy of the Form 990 is provided to the Board of Directors for comment before the form is filed.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12C

The conflict of interest policy is distributed annually to all directors and officers. Each director and officer must sign a statement that affirms that he or she has received a copy of the policy; has read and understood the policy and agrees to comply with the policy. The directors and officers are required to file annually a statement with the Board of Directors which discloses interests which could give rise to conflicts.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15A

The following processes were used to establish compensation for the position of executive director during the current year: - The Board of Directors annually sets performance objectives as well as reviews the performance of the previous year. The Board then determines what, if any, salary adjustments should be made based on individual and organizational performance. - A comparable compensation survey was performed prior to hire. Once a year, the Board reviews compensation within the non-profit and for-profit sectors to ensure that the ACE position is within a reasonable range of regional norms. - The salary adjustments are discussed and approved by the Board. The approvals are listed in the respective Board minutes. All other key employee compnesation is determined by the executive director using many of the procedures outlined above and is approved by the board of directors as part of the budget approval process.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19

Governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements are available upon request at the Organization's headquarters offices.

Form 990, Part V, Line 2A, Part VII, Section B Line 1

IRS990/Desc0Education ProgramAlliance for Climate Education's mission is to educate young people on the science of climate change and empower them to take action. We teach climate science that puts teenagers at the center of the story through our live, in-school ACE Assembly, an award-winning multimedia presentation that's proven to work. The ACE Assembly combines climate science, pop culture entertainment, and custom animation to create an unforgettable experience. Since 2009, ACE has reached over two million students in-person. During the assemblies, we give every student a chance to take action. Students are invited to pledge a DOT, or Do One Thing to protect the climate. It's a simple first step that shows the world that individual actions matter. ACE has tracked over 300,000 DOTs.
