“Form 990-ez, part iii - organizations primary exempt purposethe primary exempt purpose of hearts around the world is to provide hands on medical education to cardiologists and cardiac surgeons in third world and emerging nations.form 990-ez, part iii, line 30 - statement of program service accomplishmentsto accomplish our goal, the organization currently has five international programs in ho chi minh city, vietnam, dalian, china and milot, haiti, havana, cuba and santo domingo,dominican republic. Each team that we send consists of 4-15 cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and technologists who work side by side with their local counterparts on the wards, in the clinics, in the operating rooms and the cardiac catherization laboratories. The teams spend 7-10 days at the local hospitals. In addition to working with the local health care providers, our teams give lectures and informal conferences on a daily basis. We are currently sending 1-2 teams per year to each of our 5 sites in conjunction with the global health program of the western connecticut health network and the university of vermont global health program. We are inviting global scholars from other nations to observe at our u.s. Health institutions for 3-4 month periods. In between our missions, our physician volunteers continue to communicate (via telephone and email) with the local counterparts in an effort to provide additional medical advice and education when complicated patients are encountered.”
