Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The rights practice's mission is to advance the respect and protection of human rights in practice and is dedicated to working in environments where human rights are most at risk. Our work aims to build the capacity of our local partners (lawyers, ngos, and academic institutions) to advance human rights protection through training, legal assistance, research and advocacy. Projects help to support the development of an evidence base for advocacy drawing on international experience, empirical research and the piloting of new policies and practices.

To advance the respect and protection of human rights in practice-programs address access to access to justice; criminal justice and human rights; and civil society and public participation.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 8B

The organization does not have any committees with authority to act on behalf of the governing body.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The prepared form 990 is reviewed by the members of the governing body before the return is filed with the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Annually, the members of the governing body complete and sign a statement that discloses interests that could give rise to conflicts. The directors collectively review all noted conflicts and the signed statements are kept on file at the organization's administrative office. Any director determined to have a conflict of interest is prohibited from participating in the governing body's deliberations and decisions on the specific transaction relating to the conflict.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

On april 17, 2018, the board of directors reviewed and determined compensation for the trp's u.s. Director by conducting a performance review of the u.s. Director (undertaken by two board members with input and feedback from a compensation committee established by the board of directors), and after reviewing comparable compensation data from similarly qualified, functionally comparable, and similarly situated nonprofits. The board of directors then voted on the u.s. Director's compensation. The approval was documented in the april 2018 board meeting minutes.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.
