“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: The goal of ASPHNs project Healthy Places for Kids to Eat is to create healthier environments in schools and in early care and education settings making it easier for kids to choose healthy foods. In 2014 we participated as a member of the National Advisory Committee providing targeted technical assistance about nutrition standards and salad bars. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Mission Nutrition: Fruit and Veggie Grants for Schools is a granting program that assists schools in expanding their students palates and encouraging increased consumption of and exposure to fresh produce through engagement in lunchroom education activities that encourage students to taste new vegetables and fruits offered either in a dish, cooked, or raw. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Making Local Food Work is a coalition of governmental and non-profit Boulder County leaders. We encourage practices such as market agriculture in Boulder County, participation in community-supported agriculture and neighborhood gardens and edible landscapes, all which offer the potential benefit of increased stewardship of our open spaces, tastier and healthier food choices, and a more vital economy where we keep as much of our dollars circulating locally as possible. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: ALLERGY KIDS - to be used to educate kids and families about prevention, health, and healthy eating. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: GARDEN TO CAFETERIA - In an effort to share best practices with communities across the country we will complete a case study of the Boulder Valley School Districts Farm to Cafeteria project. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: The Get Schools Cooking (GSC) pilot program will help schools take the next step in transitioning to healthier cooking by providing grants to schools to purchase depreciable equipment (equipment that costs over $5,000) for cafeterias and kitchens. GSC focus is on a smaller number of districts to make a deeper, long-lasting impact. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 10: The Parent Advocacy Initiative (PAI) gives parents and advocates the tools and resources necessary to begin grassroots change in their community. PAI directly engages parents and advocates both online and in their communities through an advocacy toolkit, a step-by-step online guide to help parent groups initiate school food change through strategic approaches and grassroots community events. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 11: We have partnered with the Whole Kids Foundation to develop new cook from scratch school food recipes that meet the new USDA standards. Schools are eager for new healthy and tasty recipes to help expand and compliment their new school lunch programing. WKF commitment to providing schools with new recipes increases support and expansion of school lunch programing and moving schools from heat and serve to cook from scratch kitchens. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 12: LITEHOUSE - Together with Litehouse Foods we will promote student consumption of fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods through the creation and promotion of a co-branded healthy, clean-label, yogurt-based ranch dressing for school food services.”
