“Evening program for children, 1415 oliver ave n - antioch ministries has weekly programs at this location that provide an environment of trust for children and youth ages 6-17. This environment is created through sharing a meal together, doing bible study, receiving homework help, and developing healthy relationships with peers and mentors. We have 3 different programs that meet at this location. On mondays, we partner with treehouse to provide programming for 12-17 year-olds. This program meets weekly in this neighborhood environment for 2 hours. In addition, we have a wednesday night program that focuses on doing a similar program, but for 6-11 year- olds, that also lasts 2 hours. Thursdays include homework help in the afternoon for 2 hours as well. Mentorship also took place through field trips on other nights of the week. The programs average 8-12 kids each program night. In addition, volunteer leaders help for a total of 3 hours each week. What has been gained through this program is the progress of neighborhood stability, trusting relationships with youth and parents in the neighborhood, and an overall sense of community value as all are contributing to the environment just by their presence. One staff member and an average of 10 adult volunteers helped to lead these programs. During the month of july, we held a summer day camp program for 2 hours per day, four days per week. This was a continuation of our school year program, and we averaged about 8 kids per day, with 2 staff and 3 volunteers. Also, we held 2 back to school parties where 85 kids received backpacks and over 100 people attended the parties.”
“After school program, 2811 fremont ave n - antioch ministries held a weekly evening program very similar to the program at the oliver house. This program hosted kids ages 6-17 every thursday evening. The kids came to do homework, have discussions about life, have dinner, and participate in recreational activities. This program averaged 18 kids. In addition, summertime programming at this house took place weekly at the same time, but involved backyard bbq's and activities to engage youth and families in the neighborhood. Some of the same gains made at the oliver house are being made here, which is trusting relationships with youth and families, a space to feel belonging, and an environment that can help remove barriers to current and future successes. This program was operated with one staff member and an average of 6 adult volunteers. Also, we held 2 back to school parties for the neighborhood where 97 youth received backpacks, and over 130 people attended the 2 events.”
“Apply table tennis program for youth - antioch ministries started a new program that meets at farview recreation center to reach out to the neighborhood. Located just 6 blocks from our fremont location, we have engaged with teenagers on friday nights during the teen night owls program. Youth engage with antioch volunteers through the game of ping-pong and can win a gift card if they beat the volunteers. Men from the northwest table tennis league of various churches have partnered with us through monthly volunteering. Over 70 youth have attended this program that meets fridays from 8pm-10pm. This program did stop in the fall of 2016. In addition, saturdays from 10am-1pm, we have 3 volunteers and 1 antioch staff member that lead kids in table tennis skills and games, engage in a character development lesson based on the bible, and enjoy a snack. This program has grown and increased to averaging 9 kids per week, and has seen over 70 kids attend.”
