Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Right 2 Thrive's mission is to break the cycle of poverty through multi-generational empowerment and education. We do this through our education scholarship, Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE), and CapStart Programs. Our Education Program ensures youth living in poverty receive the opportunities for quality education. Our WEE program teaches business skills such as finance, customer service, and marketing and sales to women living in poverty to enable them to earn an income and support themselves and their families. CapStart provides funding to assist women with starting their own small businesses once they have successfully completed the WEE business training.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
CapStart was a pilot program in 2015. We invested in two women to help them start their own small businesses. The first CapStart recipient started a hair salon and the second started a tailoring business. We are pleased to report both businesses are very successful and continuing on. Additionally, we invested in a group of 20 women who received handcraft training through Right 2 Thrive. After teaching them how to make handbags from recycled products in 2013 and 2014, we are no teaching them business skills to help them become their own independent organization in the next couple of years. In 2015, this talented group of women known as the Kustawi Ladies sold $7,478 worth of handmade products, making their project 100% self-sustaining in 2015.$0$9,319
The Education Scholarship Program supported 3 Secondary School Boarding Students and 1 Junior High Boarding Student. Our comprehensive package includes tuition, meal plans, boarding supplies, text books, uniforms, tutoring, testing fees, mentoring, life skills training, counseling, medical care and transport home to visit family in between semesters.$0$6,028
Our Women's Economic Empowerment Program (WEE) consists of workshops designed to develop self-confidence and the business skills necessary for participants to secure employment and a sustainable income. The program targets mothers of the students in our education program in order to end multi-generational poverty. In 2015, we trained 150 women.$0$2,116

| Significant Name:, Description:| The organization's exempt purposes or mission., We clarified our mission in a more specific way. The former mission statement was "To gather resources and establish locally based programs that empower people in disadvantaged areas to improve living conditions and develop self-sustaining communities." Our new, more concise mission is "to break the cycle of poverty through empowerment and education." We feel the new mission statement more clearly defines what we do for the people we serve.|
