Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 12C

At each board and committee meeting, if there is a discussion of selecting or engaging a vendor or service provider, all in attendance are asked to recuse themselves from this discussion if there could be a perceived conflict. Annually, the organization reviews and discusses the conflict of interest policy and requests that each board member list and acknowledge any known conflicts.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The executive commitee reviews the compensation for all officers and key employees by comparing their compensation to the compensation of individuals in like positions in comparable organizations using forms 990, compensation studies, and other available data. The committee then approves any changes in compensation based on this information.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 4A

Rwanda, with a population of 11,689,000 ranks low on the Human Development Index--167th out of 182 countries--and more than 60 percent of people live below the poverty line. Although it is the second smallest country in Africa, Rwanda is the most densely populated with more than 900 people per square mile. Nearly half of Rwandas people are children, and more than 220,000 have lost one or both parents to HIV and AIDS. Children are also vulnerable to Rwandas food insecurity around 45 percent of children under 5 are malnourished and suffer from stunting. In 2013 Golf Fore Africa provided 1800 Backpacks filled with school supplies and hygiene products to children in Rwanda. Golf Fore Africa helped 53 women establish community savings and lending groups and learn business practices. 64 women were funded to start businesses with a small micro loan. We helped to launch the Community Empowerment Through Economic Development Project in Southern Rwanda. This program will improve food security, and develop small business opportunities for women in communities.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4A

5200 people in Rwanda gained access to sustainable and clean water. During the first half of fiscal 2013 families were equipped to treat water for household use through water filters and P G Purifier Water packets, while preparations were made to construct and rehabilitate water systems. Our implementing partner is training communities on sanitation benefits, proper hygiene practices and solid waste management. Schools were visited that will receive latrine blocks with individual stalls as part of improved sanitation.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4B

Zambia, with a population of 13,089,000 ranks low on the Human Development Index--163th out of 182 countries. About half of Zambians are unemployed and more than 85 percent live below the poverty line. Life in Zambia is difficult. One of the poorest countries in the world, it also has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS infections. For women and girls, these problems are compounded by gender-based discrimination and violence that too often robs them of a bright future.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4C

Golf Fore Africa is working with World Visions Strong Women Strong World group to bring hope to women and girls through a unique program developed to address the needs identified by the women and girls themselves and the government of Zambia. The two components of this program are access to education and livelihood, both of which offer a chance for a brighter future and the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. Golf Fore Africa believes that helping girls receive an education, specifically secondary and college, will open doors for a brighter future. Primary and secondary education give girls and young women tools to alleviate poverty, as schooling will help them earn higher wages and make improved life choices, such as delayed marriage.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4D

Affluence and Influence - 280 Professional and amateur golfers played in a Golf Fore Africa charity golf event in 2013. The events were used to raise funds and awareness within the golf community of the need for clean water in Africa. 75 students, teachers and volunteers from Notre Dame Preparatory High School assembled backpacks to be sent to children in Rwanda. The event was used to educate students how global poverty affects children around the world. 375 influential women attended a luncheon hosted by Golf Fore Africa entitled Strong Women Strong World. Attendees were introduced to the work Golf Fore Africa is doing to address Poverty and HIV-AIDS in Africa. We had 2 guest speakers Dr. Tererai Trent and Mary Fisher that shared the importance of education for girls and economic empowerment for women. Attendees were given the opportunity to invest into the lives of girls and women in Africa by partnering with Golf Fore Africa.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4D

Affluence and Influence CONT - Golf Fore Africa was an event sponsor of the New York City 9th Annual Strong Women Strong World luncheon. There were 250 people in attendance for an inspirational summit and lunch. Golf Fore Africa founders Betsy King and Debbie Quesada received the Hope Award for their efforts to address global poverty by providing access to clean water, economic opportunities and improved education for girls and women around the world.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt5Rwanda, with a population of 11,689,000 ranks low on the Human Development Index--167th out of 182 countries--and more than 60 percent of people live below the poverty line.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt65200 people in Rwanda gained access to sustainable and clean water.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt7Zambia, with a population of 13,089,000 ranks low on the Human Development Index--163th out of 182 countries.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt8Golf Fore Africa is working with World Visions Strong Women Strong World group to bring hope to women and girls through a unique program developed to address the needs identified by the women and girls themselves and the government of Zambia.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt9Affluence and Influence - 280 Professional and amateur golfers played in a Golf Fore Africa charity golf event in 2013.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt10Affluence and Influence CONT - Golf Fore Africa was an event sponsor of the New York City 9th Annual Strong Women Strong World luncheon. There were 250 people in attendance for an inspirational summit and lunch. Golf Fore Africa founders Betsy King and Debbie Quesada received the Hope Award for their efforts to address global poverty by providing access to clean water, economic opportunities and improved education for girls and women around the world.
