“Rainforest Partnership has no governing committees with authority to act on behalf of the governing body.”
“The Chief Executive Officer, Chief Business Officer, and designated team members review financial accounting inputs for expenses and revenue, such as contributions and in-kind, before conducting a reconciliation and producing the final year-end reports used for the financial statements and thereafter Form 990. Information for the Form 990 is reviewed by the CEO, Chief Business Officer, and Board Treasurer before being shared with the Board of Directors. Once all relevant parties have reviewed and provided feedback, the Form 990 is submitted to the IRS.”
“Any potential conflict of interest is required to be disclosed. All Board members and key team members receive the Conflict of Interest policy and submit Conflict of Interest forms, and are required to review the policy and resubmit the form annually.”
“The organization's leadership, including the Chief Executive Officer, informed the Board of Directors that the CEO and key employees elected to remain uncompensated during the reporting period in order to prioritize the allocation of funds to project teams, program activities, and organizational initiatives until such time as sufficient funding becomes available to support compensation.”
“Governing documents, Conflict of Interest policy, and financial statements are available to members of the public upon request. Financial documents are also available on our website and Candid.”
“Form 990, Part I, Line 6 - It took a team of 7 board members, 4 advisors, 3 executives, and a compensated team of 13 globally distributed members and in-country team members, along with 60 dedicated volunteers and interns based all over the world that contributed over 2,850 hours totaling to $532,820 worth of in-kind services, helping us create outsized impact in rainforest conservation.”
“Rainforest Partnership published three scientific papers and have three more ready to be submitted, on our recent discoveries of two new species of Gastrotheca, the first record of the critically endangered Hyloxalus anthracinus (a species of frog in the family Dendrobatidae) in Peru, two new species of Phrynopus, a new species of glassfrog (genus Chimerella), six new species of Pristimantis, and five new species of lizards (genus Petracola). In total, we will have published the discovery of 16 new species of frogs and lizards in the Peruvian Tropical Andes. Park rangers and our team participated in the Meeting on Neotropical Lepidoptera (ELEN) Conference in July 2024, presenting the butterfly project to a group of butterfly experts and conservation and research professionals. Our butterfly projects team produced engaging and exciting environmental education games, posters, presentations and more to share with hundreds to thousands of visitors in Ecuador's National Parks, sharing our project far and wide and raising awareness around butterfly diversity and their importance in conservation.”
“Empowered 120 Kichwa women through sustainable livelihood projects, including Amazon fish farming, artisan crafts, and ecotourism. 4 Community Associations were legally established in Hatun Urku, Munditi Urku, Isla Flor Amazonico, and Flor de Pantano. Completed process of legalizing the organizations. Continued the five aquaculture projects built in five communities, including infrastructure, training, project management structures for associations. Trainings and workshops continued through the year. Constructed key project infrastructure in Hatun Urku, Munditi Urku, and Isla Flor Amazonico, the communities that did not already have spaces for the projects already established. For example, meeting houses (chozas) were built in the 3 communities and work was done to support inclusion of necessities like bathrooms and water tanks as well as electricity and internet when possible. Built an entirely new Youth Empowerment Center in Sani Isla, which includes a meeting space for the community's youth to gather, attend workshops, host exchanges with other youth groups, and a "camping" area to host other visitors interested in supporting youth projects in Sani Isla. Multiple mingas were held every month for the past 2 years for the youth and their families/other adult supporters to come together to help build this Center. This Center is becoming a hub for youth empowerment in the region. They have created connections with other youth organizations (e.g. the San Roque community "Forest School") and will be using this school as a model to create their own program and are already expanding to invite young people from neighboring communities as well. Over 20 workshops, classes, events, exchanges, visits etc. including the following. Many were multiple-day events in Sani Isla, in exchanges with other communities/youth programs, or in Coca, Tena, Quito, etc.

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | [BIODIVERSITY RESEARCH AND CONSERVATION] In 2024, Rainforest Partnership continued strengthening protection of critical, threatened, and rare biodiversity in the Peruvian Tropical Andes and Ecuadorian Amazon by conducting groundbreaking biodiversity research and strengthening local capacities to lead conservation initiatives on the ground. Biodiversity Expedition Highlight: A 26-day expedition in late November 2024 documented 23 species of frogs, snakes, and lizards, in an area of threatened forest ecosystem in northern Peru including 5 species potentially new to science. Scientific Contributions: Rainforest Partnership Lead Herpetologist, Pablo Venegas, led another prolific year with the team: Publishing 3 scientific journal articles describing 2 new frog species and 2 new lizard species. Authored a groundbreaking 4th article documenting Peru's first-ever record of a critically endangered frog species discovered during one of our 2023 expeditions. Submitted 5 additional journal articles in 2024 for publication. Rainforest Partnership herpetologist Pablo Venegas held talks at the iconic New York Hall of Science each day during Climate Week, in September 2024, speaking about exciting discoveries, expeditions and contributions to science, importance of amphibians in the ecosystem and the importance of studying and protecting tropical rainforests. In the Ecuadorian Amazon, we trained dozens of National Park Rangers in butterfly monitoring and biodiversity research and produced environmental education content to strengthen conservation and environmental awareness of the importance of Ecuador's National Parks and of butterflies who are early alarm systems for the effects of deforestation and climate change on rainforests and wildlife. We led 16 butterfly monitoring events, training park rangers through 6-days of hands-on workshops in the field at two sites in Yasuni National Park (Anangu and Tambococha) and in Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. The park rangers developed their skills in butterfly research, identification, and monitoring. See Schedule O for additional information. |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc | 0 | [STANDING FOREST PROTECTION WITH INDIGENOUS AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES] In 2024, Rainforest Partnership continued strengthening and facilitating the protection of standing tropical rainforests threatened by deforestation, habitat and biodiversity loss, and loss of vital ecosystem services in partnership with several indigenous and local rainforest communities in the Peruvian Tropical Andes and the Ecuadorian Amazon. For example, the "Women of the Rio Napo" project is an ongoing collaboration with over 120 women in 5 Kichwa communities along the Napo River in Ecuador who protect over 149,500 acres of rainforest, including some of the most biodiverse in the world. These communities maintain the health of the forest within their boundaries and protect community land from illegal deforestation and the encroachment of industries like oil exploration and palm oil plantations. We continue a) supporting women's sustainable livelihood projects to support themselves economically and strengthen their capacities to protect the forest, including: aquaculture, agroforestry, beekeeping, and ecotourism, and b) creating educational and capacity building opportunities for women to build skills and expertise. The project strengthens food sovereignty and economic stability and opportunity in these communities who own and protect vast areas of forest and prevent the loss of a still-thriving landscape in the Ecuadorian Amazon. See Schedule O for additional project information. |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc | 0 | [GLOBAL ACTIVATION INITIATIVES] Rainforest Partnership educates, inspires, and brings together individuals and organizations worldwide to empower and accelerate the systemic change necessary to scale radical global action and conservation impact to end deforestation by 2030. Films for the Forest, Rainforest Partnership's annual international film competition, inspires people globally through beautifully told impact-driven stories; our World Rainforest Day (WRD) initiative catalyzes systemic change, rallying individuals, local communities, and global organizations to create powerful impact on the ground to protect and revitalize rainforests. These programs leverage the power of partnership, unlocking resources to magnify the scope and success of conservation projects on the ground. On June 22, we celebrated World Rainforest Day, founded by Rainforest Partnership in 2017, by leveraging impact with our network of 80+ WRD Partners. In 2024, we premiered Films for the Forest at the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) during NYC Climate Week and screened films for the whole week. We brought the rainforest to Queens in New York: Partnering with NYSCI for Climate Week, we created an immersive rainforest experience that transported diverse audiences into the heart of tropical rainforests-connecting them to our work, the tropical rainforests where we work, incredible biodiversity, and Indigenous wisdom. It connected youth and adult audiences to the rainforest in a very visceral and authentic manner. |
