Mission

Industry Studies Association seeks to advance Industry Studies scholarship by facilitating the exchange of ideas among its members and between its members and the public. These activities bring together scholars from many academic disciplines who are committed to making the kind of personal investment of time that is necessary to learn about the markets, firms, and institutions in the industries they study. The annual conference provides a forum where research findings and methodologies can be shared across disciplines. Communications to members and the public is enhanced through its website and annual conference. Through awards for outstanding published research and doctoral dissertations, Industry Studies Association recognizes excellence and promotes awareness of findings and innovations in research methods.Many of our members are world experts on particular industries or engage in research that is critically important to a number of different industries. As such, the ISA is a resou

IN MAY 2014, THE INDUSTRY STUDIES ANNUAL CONFERENCE TOOK PLACE PORTLAND, OR. THE EVENT WAS EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL WITH MORE THAN 120 ACADEMIC PAPERS PRESENTED AND MORE THAN 190 SCHOLARS, PROFESSIONALS, AND GRADUATE STUDENTS IN ATTENDANCE. IN ADDITION TO THE BREAKOUT SESSIONS, THE CONFERENCE ALSO INCLUDED A PLENARY SESSION. ONE DAY PRIOR TO THE START OF THE CONFERENCE, THE INDUSTRY STUDIES ASSOCIATION HOSTED A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP FOR EARLY CAREER SCHOLARS INTERESTED IN PURSUING INDUSTRY STUDIES RESEARCH WITHIN THEIR PARTICULAR DISCIPLINES. THIS EVENT WAS ATTENDED BY 35 SCHOLARS. THE CONFERENCE ALSO SERVED AS THE VENUE FOR ANNOUNCING THE WINNERS AND RUNNERS-UP FOR THE ANNUAL DISSERTATION AWARD, BEST PAPER PRIZE AND GIARRATANI RAISING STAR AWARD.$0$0

WE EXPANDED OUR OUTREACH THROUGH A BLOG AND OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA OUTLETS. THE ISA HAS ALSO PARTNERED WITH THE EWING MARION KAUFFMAN FOUNDATION, INFORMS, THE INSTITUTE FOR OPERATIONS RESEARCH AND THE MANAGEMENT SCIENCES, AND LERA, THE LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS ASSOCIATION. THESE PARTNERSHIPS FURTHERED EFFORTS TO ADVANCE INDUSTRY STUDIES RESEARCH AND PROGRAMS OF INTEREST TO MEMBERS OF THE ISA, INFORMS, AND LERA AS WELL AS THE BROADER ACADEMIC AND INDUSTRY COMMUNITIES. THE COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS INCLUDED A PRIZE FOR THE BEST INDUSTRY STUDIES PAPER PUBLISHED IN AN INFORMS JOURNAL, A DISSERTATION AWARD, AND AN AWARD FOR THE BEST CONFERENCE PAPER BY A JUNIOR FACULTY MEMBER.
