Program activities in 2018 included a speaking tour, development of pilot projects, and an educational food summit in China featuring Asian and international food leaders; multimedia research, an online resource portal; and published writing on food systems, climate change, public health, animal welfare, and livelihoods. Program activities have reached hundred of thousands in the Asian region, on- and off-line. We also share program experiences and outcomes that reach tens of thousands of more people in the U.S. and internationally at e.g., conferences, United Nations meetings, (i.e. on climate change and biodiversity), campuses, in the media, and on websites and social media channels.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0The Global Climate Advocacy program produces and shares research and policy analysis, builds capacity and knowledge and fosters collaboration on equitable food and agricultural systems, climate change, the environment, animal welfare and U.S. and global sustainability. Program activities include participation in global climate change summits, national dialogues and trainings, and local initiatives, as well as presentations on campuses and in classrooms, and media and social media updates. We also seek to bring new perspectives by facilitating the participation in this work of, e.g., students, young advocates, researchers, and international colleagues. The program reaches many thousands of people directly on- and off-line, and thousands more through dissemination of our research and analysis; capacity development and peer-to-peer learning; and engagement with many civil society organizations, researchers, academics, policy makers, media, and philanthropists, in the U.S. and internationally.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0The Vegan America Project (VAP) is an ongoing writing, presentation, and research project focusing on food security, climate change, animal welfare, and social transformation-using veganism as a heuristic to think about how the U.S. might adapt and develop resilience to climate change. Ten public presentations have been made about the project in the U.S., Mexico, and the U.K. Several extensive conference reports and several long form, analytic essays were written, and the project director and colleagues attended numerous public events to inform ongoing research, all of which are described on a website (veganamericaproject.org). Several hundred people have been served directly by the project's research, analysis, and new models of collaboration being explored. Thousands more have been served through the website, blog and dissemination of project reports and other written material (printed and electronic).

All program participants come from communities experiencing the effects of a changing climate and where higher education opportunities for girls and leadership opportunities for women are limited. In addition to the five young women being served directly,the program benefits thousands more through related training, internship, and networking activities; documentation and sharing of lessons learned; community outreach; and education; social media; and engagement with women and indigenous leaders in East Africa and internationally.

We only provide small grants to not for profit, charity or educational institutions and not to profit-making enterprises. For program service costs, project budgets and compensation are agreed upon before projects are undertaken. An accountant in the region reviews invoices and receipts for payment for program services costs, which are then reviewed by the program manager/finance officer and the executive director in the U.S. headquarters. Receipts documenting costs are kept on file at the U.S. office.
