Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Faces of Tomorrow is a non-profit organization that provides surgical services to underprivileged cleft lip and palate patients throughout the world. Our team is comprised of doctors, nurses, other medical staff and administrative personnel that perform the missions, which usually occur once a year. This fiscal year we undertook two missions.July 2018 Mission Lircay, PeruFaces of Tomorrow was excited to partner with the Peruvian American Medical Society (PAMS) to participate in their medical mission in the city of Lircay from July 7-13, 2018. PAMS goals are to offer medical and surgical expertise, along with education and prevention of disease, especially in children, and to improve upon Hospital services.FOT had the opportunity to be part of PAMS team and to use this trip as a scout mission to see if a larger FOT surgical mission would possible at this or another regional site. As part of this scout mission FOT brought 6 team participants including; 3 surgeons, 1 pediatric anesthesiologist, 1 registered nurse, and 1 surgical assistant. This smaller team allowed us to be very flexible and minimize the cost. Our team was able to perform various operative and clinical procedures, including several cleft lip or cleft palate repairs. In addition we performed several scar revisions, a septoplasty, cyst removals, a branchial cleft procedure, and removal of a thyroglossal duct cyst. We also had the unique opportunity to partner with other surgeons to assist in general surgery and vascular procedures.January 2019 Mission - Naypyidaw, MyanmarJanuary 16, 2019 the Faces of Tomorrow team left for FOTs 12th mission. The team embarked on a new adventure to Naypyidaw, Myanmar. After over 36 hours of travel, including a seven-hour bus ride upon arrival in Myanmar, the team reached their destination. This mission included 26 team members who ran three operating rooms. With the unknowns of a new location the team brought extra supplies in order to ensure the best care for the patients. This years mission included two triage days on Saturday and Sunday, something the team had never done before. Over 70 patients were screened. Unfortunately many patients were not candidates for surgery because they were not cleft cases and had needs outside what FOT could offer. However, in the end 39 patients were selected for surgery. The week of surgeries went extremely well due in large part to the nursing help we received from the Retired Service Personnels Hospital. Unique to past missions, the hospital housed patients for the entire week. This was partly to do with the remote location of Naypyidaw and also to ensure the best pre and post care for the patients. At the end of the week the team had done 50 cases and changed the lives of those 39 patients. An exciting part of this mission was that two of the surgeons were craniofacial and plastic surgeons. Having them as part of the team meant that we were able to treat burn victims, another first for FOT.$68,644-
