FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

To engage at risk youths that have had difficulty navigating the paths of traditional social, educational and judicial systems in understanding and obtaining mainstream skill competency levels and social values that will empower them to interact in their community, school or job setting more successfully.

Form 990, Page 1, Part I, Line 6

Volunteers provide tutoring to elementary, junior high and high school students.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

D.e.a.l. (developing esteemed academic life-skills)- 25 to 50 middle school students participate in this after school two hour program three afternoons per week. Workshops promote skills in public speaking, leadership, behavior management, mediation and alternative to violence methodologies. Hip hop theater - forty students from middle and high school grades six through twelve participate in this program. The program produces plays with the assistance of drama students from vassar college. Plays will focus on hip hop themes. All participants will have the opportunity to get involved with play writing, acting, directing and learning about stage management. Alternative to violence program - 50 to 100 middle and high school students participate in this program that trains individuals in how to avoid impulsive physical reactions that may lead to negative violent behavior. The goal of this program is to lower the community level of youth violence while increasing their exposure to the concepts of conflict resolution.

The organization files an annual 990 as a tax exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. As such, no federal or new york state taxes are paid by the organization. The organization has been classified as an entity that is not a private foundation within the meaning of section 509(a) and qualifies for deductible contributions as provided in section 170 (b)(1)(a)(vi). The organization adopted the provisions of accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america regarding accounting for uncertain tax positions. Management evaluated the organization's tax positions and concluded that the organization had taken no uncertain tax positions that would require adjustment to the financial statements in order to comply with the provisions of this guidance. With few exceptions, the organization is no longer subject to income tax examinations by the u.s. Federal, state ot local tax authorities for fiscal years prior to 2013.

WORKSHOPS PROMOTE SKILLS IN PUBLIC SPEAKING, LEADERSHIP, BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT, MEDIATION AND ALTERNATIVE TO VIOLENCE METHODOLOGIES. HIP HOP THEATER - FORTY STUDENTS FROM MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL GRADES SIX THROUGH TWELVE PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM PRODUCES PLAYS WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF DRAMA STUDENTS FROM VASSAR COLLEGE. PLAYS WILL FOCUS ON HIP HOP THEMES. ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET INVOLVED WITH PLAY WRITING, ACTING, DIRECTING AND LEARNING ABOUT STAGE MANAGEMENT. ALTERNATIVE TO VIOLENCE PROGRAM - 50 TO 100 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM THAT TRAINS INDIVIDUALS IN HOW TO AVOID IMPULSIVE PHYSICAL REACTIONS THAT MAY LEAD TO NEGATIVE VIOLENT BEHAVIOR. THE GOAL OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO LOWER THE COMMUNITY LEVEL OF YOUTH VIOLENCE WHILE INCREASING THEIR EXPOSURE TO THE CONCEPTS OF CONFLICT RESOLUTION.

HIP HOP THEATER - FORTY STUDENTS FROM MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL GRADES SIX THROUGH TWELVE PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM PRODUCES PLAYS WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF DRAMA STUDENTS FROM VASSAR COLLEGE. PLAYS WILL FOCUS ON HIP HOP THEMES. ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET INVOLVED WITH PLAY WRITING, ACTING, DIRECTING AND LEARNING ABOUT STAGE MANAGEMENT. ALTERNATIVE TO VIOLENCE PROGRAM - 50 TO 100 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM THAT TRAINS INDIVIDUALS IN HOW TO AVOID IMPULSIVE PHYSICAL REACTIONS THAT MAY LEAD TO NEGATIVE VIOLENT BEHAVIOR. THE GOAL OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO LOWER THE COMMUNITY LEVEL OF YOUTH VIOLENCE WHILE INCREASING THEIR EXPOSURE TO THE CONCEPTS OF CONFLICT RESOLUTION.
