“Autism and also include regular social groups. These eight support groups leaders work together regularly and receive annual training and development. The number of programs developed from our parent support group structure has increased from 3 to 31. Parents are getting more involved to assist each other and engage the community for additional programming and support.”
“Education in public schools who partner with us to celebrate autism during our piecewalk season. Our mascot, dash, has a full body costume and visits community events. In addition, dash has a twitter account to communicate with his fans. Autismoklahoma provides a number of other autism awareness tools including our website, e-news, social media strategies, public service announcements and even a full-length movie. All of these programs are designed to engage our community in understanding and accepting people who have autism. All of our programs have grown significantly over the past 3 years. In 2013 we had 185 teams participate in the piecewalk.”
“Pre-employment interest clubs bee's knees and invisible layers productions (ilp). Invisible layers are innovative models and pre-employment clubs for young adults who have autism. The club provides for 3 primary needs: 1. Avenues for developing social and team skills in an area of interest. This is an important consideration since many young adults with autism isolate if not compelled to participate in life through an interest area. 2. "alternative pre-employment" where members learn skills to creat quality art and videos while building and maintaining a business model with real customers. 3. Group members participate in developing creative ways to express their views and tell their stories. The club members demonstrate personal transformations in confidence and willingness to participate in life. As far as we know, our clubs are a one of a kind opportunity and a unique model for personal transformation. Our bee's knees group participates in the big swanky art show that attracted 400 people and every piece of art was sold. Invisible layers has generated 2,000 monthly from business customers by developing 3-5 minute website videos for other non-profits and businesses.”
