Activity 2

Most parents in our transitional housing program are younger mothers between the ages of 18 and 26 at admission who have documented homelessness. Families may live in rent assisted housing in a townhouse community in clairton, pa for up to two years. Applicants must have custody of at least one child or be seven months pregnant upon entry to the program. Carrie found a job within three months of entering the program. Her part time position became full time with benefits after she completed her cna training. Carrie also got her driver's license and purchased a reliable second hand car. When she graduated from the program recently she moved into an apartment closer to her work. She hopes to graduate with her nursing degree this summer.

Activity 3

In 2011 sisters place contracted for a third hud program which supports five additional families with permanent housing. The board wanted to address our long waiting list and after some study we determined that we could handle another five families with our available resources. This program recently reported results for its first year of operation and we are optimistic that we can support our larger number of families into the future.our first day light resident cassie is a veteran of the war in iraq and copes with significant ptsd and other issues involving her service. She has made strides since coming to sisters place and hopes to continue to stabilize enough that she can complete her education and eventually find suitable employment.
