Wpo for life - cmu school of computer science:the next event was held in september 2010 at the carnegie mellon's school of computer science. Carnegie mellon's school of computer sciences is rated #1 in the world, along with mit, stanford, and uc berkeley. It now has a stunning new building, the bill & melinda gates center for computer science. Architecturally bold and attractive, it is also very functional and efficient. Meet the dean of the school, randy bryant, who will outline the work and accomplishments of cmu's computer science and will present you with the story of how this extraordinary building was created, with the participation of other key people who actually did it.

Other educational programs:the pittsburgh chapter has a long history of participating in area conferences and chapter trips. Lifetime friendships have been initiated and enhanced through the organization's experiences.the november event was held at the newly renovated national aviary where members enjoyed a brief demonstration of how they train the birds using positive reinforcement in order to solicit desired behaviors. Thad lacinak, internationally acclaimed animal behaviorist spoke on the power of positive relationships. Because of his work with killer whales, thad will explain that both whales and people perform better when you accentuate the positive. He will show us how using the techniques of animal trainers specifically those responsible for the killer whales at seaworld, can supercharge your effectiveness at both work and home.several lunch & learns were held during the year. In november, members heard a lecture addressing the issues and predictions of the november election from the perspective of lurita doan, a conservative washington insider, and how it will affect you and your company. In january 2011, members begain another program with a nuclear reactor simulator tour at westinghouse. Following lunch, dr. Aris candris presented an informed perspective on the past, present and future of nuclear power in both the usa and the world. In march 2011, phil orlando discussed the current market trends and how they affect achieving a balanced financial portfolio. As chief equity market strategist, philip j. Orlando, cfa, is responsible for formulating federated's opinions on the various equity markets and positioning strategies, as well as articulating the practical implications of those targets to clients and potential clients.dr. Palmer, a nationally respected geriatrician, reviewed the science of "aging well", and he showed members what do to remain healthy, mobile and mentally sharp.the annual black tie holiday party was held at the duquesne club. It was time to catch up in a quiet setting with an old friend, shooting billiards or dancing to the live music of joe grushecky & the houserockers.pittsburgh opera's resident artists represented the very best of america's vocal talent with selections from broadway musicals, pop songs and more!a tour of the yet-to-be-opened north shore connector was held along with grant oliphant, ceo of the pittsburgh foundation, who presented "philanthropy" its role and impact in our community. Grant oliphant is president and chief executive officer of the pittsburgh foundation, one of the largest and oldest community foundations in the united states.david pearce snyder used his data base to create detailed scenarios - "instant pre-plays" - of the most probable combinations of economic, technologic and social realities that specific industries, institutions, or individual communities or nations are likely to encounter during the next 5 to 15 years.the year ended with an outstanding all-evening-long format for fun, comfort foods, and great interaction around the fire pits, led by rock-solid resources who know the "facts" about each topic, and moderated by three members who know how. Members had some one-on-one time for some real old-fashioned wpo 49er bonding.
