Activity 2

Education - the museum's education program encourages lifelong learning in the general public through a variety of program offerings, including studio art classes, workshops, lectures, guided tours, and projects that offer the public art-making opportunities. Studio art classes taught by professional artists offer beginners and amateurs an opportunity to create art in a nurturing environment with quality instruction. The education program specifically addresses teachers in primary and secondary schools through in-service and professional development programs. The museum hosts interns from all over the united states and beyond in an applied learning situation that enables students to experience the real-world application of their academic learning through participation in museum programming. The museum works with a consortium of collaborators to offer training for pre-school teachers that encourages the regular use of song and dance in early education.

Activity 3

Performances - the museum pursues its mission to "encourage art in all its forms" through a regular series of performing arts programs. Principal among these are concerts presented as part of the 32-year-old contemporary music series, and the 2-day free erie art museum blues & jazz festival, which takes place in a beautiful city park and arboretum. All the performing arts presentations, including the festival, are accompanied by educational programs that bring artists and audiences together around cultural intersections of art and music. International artists are a frequent component of these programs.
