“The university's endowment consists of approximately 50 individual investment accounts established to fund numerous purposes. The total endowment consists of two collective fund groups. It includes both donor-restricted endowment funds (the "endowment fund") which are classified as either temporarily or permanently restricted funds, and non-donor unrestricted funds that have been established by the board of trustees (the "board") to function as reserve-type funds (the "board- designated reserve fund"), which are classified as unrestricted funds. As required by gaap, the net assets of the university's endowment are classified and reported based on the existence or absence of donor-imposed restrictions.
