Activity 2

Commissions and ProjectsThe Kronos Performing Arts Association has commissioned more than 750 new works and arrangements for the Kronos Quartet since the group's founding. Kronos performs these pieces in concerts throughout the world, and many of the works have been recorded for cd, radio, television and the internet. Hundreds of the works commissioned by Kronos have been performed by other musicians, and used in dance, theater, television and film productions. In addition to commissioning pieces of music, Kronos produces staged works on an ongoing basis. Recent productions include "Sun Rings" (IN COLLABORATION WITH NASA), "Awakening," "A Chinese Home," "Music From 4 Fences," AND "WOMEN'S VOICES."

Activity 3

EDUCATION AND COMMUNITYThe Kronos Quartet participates in EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY projects on an ongoing basis. In 2003, to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the group, KPAA initiated the "Kronos: Under 30" project, a mentoring and residency program for composers under the age of 30. THE 5TH EDITION OF THE PROGRAM IS NOW UNDERWAY. The group participates in many residencies at universities each year, working with student composers, musicians, and students from other areas of study. In 2007 and 2009 the quartet participated in Professional Training Workshops at Carnegie Hall's Weill Institute, which involved intensive coaching with young professional string quartets. Kronos often performs for school aged children and families, both in schools and in concert hall settings. (Continued on Schedule O)
